Or maybe... They might seem normal for the most part, but with a jarring, surreal edge of madness - like those three ritually maimed Haruchai (whose title escapes me).

I’ve mentioned this speculation on a nother thread. Maybe the sand-gorrgosn have become corrupted by bargaining with the croyel and they’ve gone on a destruction binge on that Earth’s other continent. The Giant’s Home has been destroyed and th survivors flee to the Land with some surviving Bhrathair. (I assume however that Elemesnedene would be safe even froim croyel-driven Sandgorgons)
