People are boycotting it??!!

Is that cause they think it's witchcraft or something?

We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the book. The first copy I ordered will be leaving for NYC with Foamy the day after it comes out.

So I have had to order a second copy for the rest of the family.

I am so excited, can't wait for the book to arrive!!!

Did you check out some of the links embedded in the article? The words "crappy quality" link you to an article suggesting that the series has lost popularity in Singapore(!).

According to a former fan[my insert: actually that same "crappy quality" link], Goblet of Fire was 'quite disappointing. It was too long, too draggy and too convoluted ... for both adults and children.

Really? That would come as quite a surprise to the many of us who read and enjoyed the book. I think that many fans agreed that the plot was more interesting than the previous books. I liked the added complexity of the plot, to tell the truth.

Potter's just not my style. Heck--it's probably the antithesis of my style. I'm just waiting for Martin to finish Crows, and I'm getting a bit more impatient with him.

People in my class boycott it for one of two reasons... 1.) religion or b.) they are too cool to read that.

Who cares what they say? It's all personal opinion/style. It's not that they're “too cool”--they're too disrespectful of something they have no concept of grasping, something that they'll never be able to do. They're basically immature and a bit heartless to dismiss a book on such uncertain terms. That religion crap--bah, all I've got to say. Heck--I'm an atheist and I read Lord of the Rings, knowing it was written by a devout Roman Catholic and that it embraced many religious ideals.

I know a lady who is very sweet, very well-intentioned, and a very devout christian. I respect her a lot because I know she is sincere in her beliefs. Unfortunately, she is also a bit of a zealot about some things we just can't agree on. She tends to go a little off her nut about things like halloween and Harry Potter. She believes that the Harry Potter books are coded manuals, designed to arouse childrens interest in - and actually teach them - witchcraft (which is inherently evil). Her church teaches that the spells used in the books are real spells, and that there are subliminal satanic messages hidden (somehow) in the text.
This lady knows that we have read, and like the books. That we own both the movies. That our son was Harry Potter for halloween. She is quietly horrified by this. She has gifted us with several books and videos, with titles like Harry Potter: the Menace Behind the Magic, and, Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged (making evil look innocent) [retail $24.95

]. We take them, and even read some of them, and our copy of Order of the Phoenix is on reserve at 40% off at Barnes and Noble.
I am caught between a wry sadness at the target of this womans fervor in the face of so many larger issues, and bemusement at the quaintness of it all. But hell, everyone's cracked about something or other.

Here in Indianapolis a drugstore put the books out yesterday for a couple hours. A lot of people are screaming about it. (it was an honest mistake btw) but a really big deal apparently.
