almost great songs...

Post by dennisrwood »

do you know of any songs that were almost great, discuss here.

today I heard on the radio one such song...

IT DON'T COME EASY

It don't come easy
You know it don't come easy
It don't come easy
You know it don't come easy

Got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues
And you know it don't come easy

You don't have to shout or leap about
You can even play them easy
Forget about the past and all your sorrow
The future won't last
It will soon by your tomorrow

I don't ask for much I only want trust
And you know it don't come easy
And this love of mine keeps growing all the time
And you know it just ain't easy

Open up your heart Let's come together
Use a little luck
And we will make it work out better
Got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues
And you know it don't come easy

You don't have to shout or leap about
You can even play them easy

Please remember peace is how we make it
Here within your reach
If you're big enough to take it

I don't ask for much I only want trust
And you know it don't come easy
And this love of mine keeps growing all the time
And you know it don't come easy

first, Ringo can't sing the song. it calls for a much better singer. and the arrangement needs to be stripped. drop the horns please! if I remember right this was actually written by Harrison and offered to Badfinger. how I wished that they had recorded it.

Almost great.....now this is a subject that's open for interpretation. I can think of a lot of albums that in my mind didn't live up to their billing. Styx's "Paradise Theatre" and "Mr. Roboto". The Cars "Heartbeat City". Every ZZ Top album from "Eliminator" on. All King's X, Tribal Tech, and Dream Theatre. U2's "Pop". All Van Halen after "1984". All Joe Jackson after "Look Sharp". All Billy Joel after "Steel Curtain".......heh, I could go on all day.

I agree, "almost great songs" casts a pretty wide net. Maybe this topic isn't getting much response because people would rather talk about what they think are genuinely "great" songs than about almost great ones. :)

LOL! I know I should like them, especially since I'm a prog-loving lefty bassist, but I just can't make the connection. I think they're too metal-oriented for me.

Its "Wrapped up like a deuce" not "Wrapped up like a douche"!
"And now for something completely different".
