Well that stinks. Two low blows in my last reading of the GI
One:
SRD has said once again that he doesn't plan on revisiting the past. So my dreams/hopes of "seeing" the Land at the time of the Old Lords doesn't seem too good and my Roger as Berek is out the window now I guess.
There's still hope that some players can come forward though, like some of the Old Lords that were betrays and slaughtered on Mt Thunder and maybe Mhoram can popup too (we never know if he had and adventure before passing away)
My most fervent dream is to see Mhoram interacting with an Old Lord.
I just think that would be the greatest thing seeing how they contrast.
How Mhoram's lifelong respect for the Old Lords is turned around after he learns that *he's* a better Lord.
Oh well, I can dream!
Two:
SRD doesn't even read this forum!
It makes sense.
I guess the comments here could taint of influence his ideas.
BUT he also says that he has it all planned out so what could it hurt to see a few comment?
Yeah I know, he's too busy writing and he's blessed us all with the GI anyway.
True but I always wondered if he came here to get a few laughs

Well, I for one am glad. Back to the Future II was cool, but I'd hate to see it made into a book.High Lord Tolkien wrote:One: SRD has said once again that he doesn't plan on revisiting the past.
Yep. But you had to see that coming.High Lord Tolkien wrote:SRD doesn't even read this forum!

SRD has visited the forum, twice to my knowledge. Once was to thank us for our birthday well-wishing, and the other eludes me. But he definitely doesn't make a habit of it, no.

Pretty sure he made a reference to Dissecting, as well. Something along the lines of [glad people have put as much thought into it as I have].
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Well, I have read the entire GI, and he has made references to KW in more than one place, betraying a better knowledge of this place than most. I think he reads more on KW than he lets on.
But... that being said... I can see his point. He most likely doesn't want to taint the process of his creativity by some of our ideas/thoughts/suggestions in the new books, even inadvertently. Can you imagine seeing a reference to "smoked nicor" in one of the new books yet to be released? That would SCREAM out, "hey, I stole the idea from KW!!"
I also would have liked to have seen a "prequel" series of books about Damelon, Loric, and Kevin. It would be cool to see the Old Lords in action, and to know exactly how they fell into defeat. BUT... it ain't gonna happen. Bummer.

I always thought it would have been funny if SRD posted here under a different name.
Just to mess with us.
Post a thoery and see it get smashed to bits, just for fun.
Have one of us tell *him* that he doesn't know what he's talking about.
Well, I think it would be funny.
But I don't get out much............

Unless he's a very very very good liar.JemCheeta wrote:Yeah, that's fun to think about... but he seems to have some specific views on honesty and directness that would preclude it.
I mean come on.
You can't write about someone as evil as the Lord Foul and not have an inner demon to draw on.
Evil understands good but good doesn't understand evil.
Or is it the other way around?
The civilized Kirk could pretend to be a savage but the savage Kirk couldn't pretend to be civilized.
That's it!
Now what were we talking about again?

Something about GI-Joe and being upset that he doesn't play with us, or something?High Lord Tolkien wrote:Now what were we talking about again?

SRD is Darth Revan
Heh.
I have to say it would be amusing to post the real explanation for something under an assumed name, then watch people quote the GI at you to prove you wrong
But I think not. In addition to SRD's policy on honesty, I think habitually visiting a forum dedicated to his work would be too close to stroking his ego for his tastes. Just my impression of the man.

Just because he says there will never be a prequel, or this is the last series, you still never know. I believe him when he says it, but he might change his mind down the road. You just never know how he’ll feel about the prospect 5 years or 10 years down the road, an idea could pop into his head that he wants to explore that might chance this stance. Who knows?
Terry Brooks said the same thing about the Shannara series. He never wanted to do a prequel. Well, the publishers pushed him to do one, so he caved in and did it: The first King of Shannara (I think this is the name ?). Anyway, after that book, he once again said he would never do another prequel. Well, guess what? He now has decided he wants to tell the story of how Shannara began. For those who don’t know, it used to be a world of technology and was destroyed, and magic, Trolls and elves, etc… came after this technological world. So, he’s now starting to write a trilogy about how the Shannara world came about.
Never say never. He once said he would never do another Covenant novel, and he’s back writing another Covenant series.

I'll be perfectly happy if he doesn't write a single word more re: Covenant, but sits down instead and gives us another sci-fi saga equal to the Gap
(after he's finished TFCTC of course)
