Watch any of the "love" scenes in Clones. They're painful. Hayden can't act, but in all fairness, the dialogue just isn't that good to begin with. Someone (not me) made the comment that just because it looks good on paper doesn't mean it'll sound good when spoken.

Star Wars was a megahit because it was so different from anything we'd seen before. It's not a particularly good movie, but it is a cultural phenomenon, and it's a hoot to watch. Empire is an absolute masterpiece, no question it's the high-water-mark of the series. Jedi had it's moments, but began the slide into the "kids movie" realm.

TPM and AotC rely on glitz and cutesy BS to fill time. Jar-Jar, the 15-minute freakin' pod race with the ridiculous announcers, and the absolutely overwhelming CGI just drag these movies down. Where's the magic? Where's the twinkle? Hell, where's the hard-edged stuff like in Empire?

Don't get me wrong, I will see RotS, and I'll probably do it opening weekend, but I have a horrible feeling I'm going to be disappointed. We already know what the mosaic looks like, and quite frankly I don't think the prequels were necessary for that at all.

I guess my biggest complaint is that the prequels just seem like Luca$ making a money-grab, capitalizing on something that I, and many others in my generation absolutely revered when we were kids.

When I watched AOTC all I could think of is that it was the biggest toy commercial in history. So many machines (note the woeful end battle sequence - armies no longer have tactics, they just run at each other and fire) for toy companies to produce.

AOTC had so many plot holes it wasn't funny.

What Foul said about the acting is spot on. Vader is ruined for me now because of Hayden.

You're spot-on too LM. AotC could have been fantastic, unfortunately there was no real coherent plot to go with the breathtaking CGI.

Great point, Cail. Lucas likens himself to an avant garde of special effects; as far as plot is concerned, well it's there to at least tie the effects together.

Yeah...I think everyone here has summed up the pitfalls of the first two prequels quite nicely. That dialogue...heh. It's so bad, you just have to laugh at it.

That doesn't mean I'm letting you off the hook though, A. You still have to come see the ROTS. Come join the dark side... Heh.-jay ;)

Yeah, it's a real shame, 'cause the whole sequence on the "clone station" (the rainy planet) really looked cool, but it's agonizing getting there, and the exposition sounds like it was written by a child.

Force me into that movie and I'll make you sit through the Star Trek prequel that's coming up in a year or two... and you're gonna be pretty lonely, because I'm probably not gonna stomach anything of that movie past "Produced by Rick Berman." ;)

Good point. And there are SO many plot holes surrounding the clone thing I wonder if the film would sink into that sea.

1. I understand that the water world was removed from the database, but why is it everyone forgot? It's like removing New Zealand from every map and book in the world and expecting no one to know about it.

2. Where did the technology come from to arm and transport the clones? They are cloned for the war (fair enough, no complaints there), but where in the story was the explanation for all that war tech?

3. Cloning a body doesn't clone skill; copying Jango wouldn't ensure brilliant fighters. Genes transcripts proteins, not knowledge. Understandably, they train millions of clones, but was Jango necessary? What has happened to genetic engineering? Surely any person would do with the right training.
