How about CGI (a la Final Fantasy - Spirits Within) instead of anime? Just a thought and allows for a bit more realism, especially with the characters and showing panoramic views of wide, sweeping landscapes (e.g. looking down from the Watch).
I seem to remember Ralph "Mighty Mouse" Bakshi's animated adaptation of LOTR was quite good, though it was never properly finished. Then again I was a lot younger when I saw it.

yeah. that'd be excellent, you could have a little toy of Thomas, and when you press his belly, he says "hellfire".Alynna Lis Eachann wrote:ROTFL!
See, this has been one of my problems with the idea all along: People won't look past the surface of this being a fantasy, and they will refuse to accept that fantasy can be dark, and can educate. People see fantasy as entertainment - often children's (and geeks) entertainment - not as something serious.
"What do you mean, we shouldn't have toys made? But won't children want their own Thomas Covenant action figure?"
"Er... not so much, no."

There are not enough emoticons in the world to express my joy. Thank you, Wayfriend.

I have found a great person to play Thomas Covenant
I think the perfect person to play Covenant would be Hugh Laurie, from the Fox show House, I think he has the look, the build, and the personality, not to mention the training to play Covenant as he was written.
Hold peace and grief and be still.
I wouldn't want to see puppets. And the only similarities I see (having read the first and second chronicles at least a dozen times each over the past 20 yrs) is that it's a classic battle between good and evil and there is a ring involved.
Personally i like to walk on the darkside!

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and
all are different colors but they all have to learn to live in the same box.

Excellent WayFriend!
How about Gonzo as Warmark Quaan and the Warward is comprised entirely of chickens?
Sam the Eagle as Foul?
And, of course, Animal as Nom.

Actually, I wonder if that's been thought over by those with the rights. That sounds like a great idea if a movie adaptation just doesn't happen~!Vector wrote: I could see it an an anime - it would be fun, and animes are more likely to tread on more experimental territory. Also, a mini-series from the Sci-fi channel - a la Dune could do it justice.

Sci-Fi Channel Can't Work
Vector: "Also, a mini-series from the Sci-fi channel - a la Dune could do it justice."
I gotta say, I have no confidence that SciFi could do it justice. Most of the SciFi channel productions have lousy acting and cheap CGI. Good stop-motion animation is better than cheap CGI any day (ala Dragonslayer). The Dune mini-series may have gotten the details that the Francis Ford Coppola movie skipped or altered, but the production value was very, very low.
In any case, TCOTC needs a solid director and a huge budget to do the settings , characters and creatures any justice. Definitely need to stay away from any Peter Jackson/LOTR similarities in style or production design.
