How about a "The Origin of the Kevin's Watch" thre

Post by High Lord Tolkien »

How about a "The Origin of the Kevin's Watch" thread?

I'm curious as to how this place all came together and who the "founders" (the core original posters) are (screen names! not personal info).
I've heard bits and pieces from other threads that there was another Donaldson fan type site that wasn't very functional or something.

Who took the "bull by the horns"?
Who's paying for this place?

Who's the "head honcho" the "big boss"?
And I don't mean Moderator, I mean who can shut the Watch down?
Is that Vain? or Kevinswatch?
I'd love to hear who did what and what the original ideas where for the site and if it changed in any way as the years go by.

Did anyone know that SRD was going back to the Land in 2002 when the Watch started or did you people think that his current body of work enough to keep everyone talking?

Unfortunately people usually don't like to talk about themselves or think it's rude to talk about others or maybe they can't imagine that anyone would be interesting in this stuff so I wonder what kind of Watch history I'm going to get. :)

But then again maybe it's just boring as all heck!
Let me know.

That would be Alynna. Blame her for everything. Hehe. ;)

But it's no big secret around here on how this place got started. Me and A simply got completely wasted one night and came up with the idea in a drunken stupor.-jay

That's right, it's all my fault. Well, at least the stuff that happened after October of 2004. Before that I was just a footnote in the history of Kevin's Watch. Funny how college can take over your life.

Should we be concerned that everyone seems to be accepting the "drunken stupor" story without any question?-jay

I think that the founders should spill with a more thoughtful (and longer) response. HLT's curious because he cares.

Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!

Not a bad idea. It's asked pretty often, either in posts or chat. Maybe a thread in The Summonsing?

yea id like to know aswell...

Actually, there's a thread in The Summonsing already where Jay answers this question. The "friend in high school" would be me.

It also gives a pretty good account of how many of the original members came here.

I know it's all water under the, uh, Mithil bridge now, but it was kind of a shame that Alynna & Jay couldn't use the "White Gold" name. But, hey, I'm glad they went with Kevin's Watch as the alternative! :D

(BTW, that "whitegold" site is all about--what else?--rings and things made of white gold. It also appears to function as a search engine...)

Just doesn't have the same ring as "Kevin's Watch". Ouch, pun.

Sweet... A license to make bad puns... The power... Hehe.

But yeah, like A said in that one post, there's a thread where we talk about all of this stuff already, so you can just read that. Plus, I'm lazy. Heh.-jay

Heh, It's actually better than the truth.

Wow, Vain set this web thing up and then keeps his hands off.
That's unusual!

When did SRD first become aware of the Watch?
I think I read that he thinks we're all crazy to be into this as much as we are.
Is that true?

And what were you drinking that night anyway? ;)
