Favourite sport?

Hey Nigels, who do you play for? I've just taken up hockey again after a long time out. Initially it made me wonder why I ever stopped, but one month, a broken toe and a stress fracture to the humerus later and it's all coming back to me. I don't think I'll ever be as good as I was, but I hope I can still do a job in the one game in three that I'm actually fit for.
I tried ice hockey some years ago, but I was never going to be a good enough skater. I like watching it though, and it's definitely my favourite American sport.
I'm a keen epee fencer too, but I've been having a torrid time with injuries this season (the story of my life) so I'm writing off the rest of it and concentrating on next year.
I also play the occasional game of football (evidence of which can be seen here.), but mostly I just watch it. I try and see my beloved (and decidedly world-weary at this point in time) Stockport County whenever I can, and I am a member of the supporters trust that will takeover the club as of 01/07/2005.
As people have already pointed out, there aren't that many goals in soccer, but when they come they mean so much more because of it. There just isn't that kind of emotional release in most other sports. Anyone who thinks it is a boring game should watch yesterday's European Champion's League Final.

Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

Nav, I play for Letchworth in herts, 2nd team, we got promotion this season. No injuries this year. I usually reckon on a visit to casualty once every four years. Not due next visit until 2007.
Warmark, I've done a bit of climbing in the Alps. Done Monte Rosa and Jungfrau. Doing Mont Blanc this summer.

Regs, Nigels.
Mind the Gap, its closer than you think.

Ah, well we won't be playing each other anytime soon then, unless we both make it into the national leagues. I've got a few friendly games under my belt now, and I'm getting better with each one. I need some time to work on my techneque though, as I just can't get the power in my pushes and flicks that I used to. Strangely I can now slap the ball quite nicely, which I was always rubbish at before. I went close with a sweet half-volley last week.
Once I can get the ball moving a bit quicker, I want to start playing further up the pitch. The last thing I want is a reputation as a good back!

(The Esmer spin dodges left, fakes right, shoots behind the back over the shoulder, he scooooooores! heh)
Lacrosse is the god of all sports, so "Bow Down".
Hockey would be next (pro, or in the street on my blades)(Boston Bruins
)
Then Football, Dallas style. (was a Cowboy fan before I was born, so I've earned my Star. You won't find me on any bandwagon, unless Syl is driving it, heehee.

In my criminology class last semester, the prof. did the standard "introduce yourself and say something about yourself to the class" routine. Only this time around, it turned into everybody professing their football and baseball loyalties. So this is my "introduction" to KW.
Football---> Patriots (Brady's better than Manning, and it's fun to watch the media get all worked up over Manning, only to have him get smacked down by the Pats when it counts.)
Hockey---> Sharks (I have a program from their first season that their website sent me for posting on a message board
and they came into the league just as I was finding my inner sports fan.)
Playoff Baseball--->Red Sox (Playoff baseball actually counts, the length of the season and the fact that only eight teams make it into the playoffs ...kind of questionable, but definitely worth it when the playoffs roll around.)
Basketball---> Sixers (Allen Iverson is the man. I've never seen a player who has more heart than #3.)
Regular 672-game season baseball--->Red Sox

Football - Raiders (yeah, I know, but I've been a fan since the early 70s)
Baseball - Gotta love them O's. Well, no you don't, but if you ever feel the need to be angry and frustrated with a sports franchise, they're your team.
Hockey - Caps all the way. It helps that I know several of the players every season. These guys get huge contracts and want to build mansions. Mo' money for Cail!
College - Fear the turtle! Go Terps!
Football (soccer) - Glasgow Celtic, 'cause I'm both Scot and Catholic (and they kick butt). I like Arsenal in the Prem. Can't wait for the World Cup to start.
Golf - Phil Mickleson, 'cause he's a big goofy-looking guy who understands that his family is the most important thing in the world.
Racing - Pretty much anything but NASCAR. I like watching Danica, 'cause she's got those (and I like those), I think Boris Said is great fun to watch, no matter what he's driving. Oh, and the coolest racing series I've ever seen....Australian Supercar Racing.
I can't stand pro Basketball.

you've got that right--I tried playing it in HS, tried that is--unfortunately I didn't learn how to run the field (or run properly) until College. Yes I could run at Basketball and move in tennis, but running and seeing the field in Lacrosse is a WHOLE different science! It truly is the "fastest sport on two legs"The Esmer wrote: Lacrosse is the god of all sports, so "Bow Down".

NFL Football (screw Darth's opinion!

Basketball: Phoenix Suns
Hockey: Colorado Avalance (or what's left of them)
Baseball: Los Angeles Angels of Anahiem (and parts of Modesto on cloudy days

College football (produced Robin Cole, Terrance Mathis and Brian Urlacher), basketball (produced Michael Cooper, Luc Longely, Kenny Thomas and Danny Granger), soccer (we were 2nd in the nation, losing only to Maryland, this year!), skiing (won the NCAAs last year!): University of New Mexico Lobos
(edit: oh great, wouldn't you know it! A damm Maryland fan posted on top of me!

fall far and well Pilots!
