Then he would go back and do the first trilogy, but not before releasing Special Editions of the Second Chronicles, in which the Guardian kicks Brinn first. And he would refuse to do the Last Chronicles because of the negative response to his Jar-Jar Jehannum character. :P
Watch this movie I would!

Yes, Akasri, you probably would see the movie, being a diabolical Clave person that you are! :P

And I parody Lucas out of affection for Star Wars, that's all. :)

At one time I was a huge Cameron fan. After Titanic and the 8-year sabattical he's taken since, I doubt he could pull it off. Then again, I'll be in line for Battle Angel when it comes out, even though it sounds all sorts of hokey.

It's a shame he passed on Spiderman.

Ooh, don't get me started on the whole Cameron/Spiderman debacle. Sigh. I didn't know who to be more annoyed at: Cameron for giving up on the project, or Sony and Marvel for tying up the project in legal wrangling that led to Cameron slipping out of their hands. The alternate Spidey movie plays in my mind...

You could be right, Cail. Maybe after such a long sabbatical, Cameron is a little rusty. I suggest hiring his evil twin, Jar-Jar Cameron. Not coming anytime soon to a theatre near you: Episode I - The Rockworm Menace.

We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.

Instead of the Wraiths in Andelain we'd have Ewoks, and instead of being eaten by the Urviles, they'd be chased away by black rolling droid-bots...

Hey I see potential here!

I think it should be a 3 director effort led by (depending on how dark and good Batman Begins is) Christopher (Momento) Nolan for overall mood and emotion (and hey he's already worked with Christian Bale) -Ridley Scott for effects and battle scenes and Michael Mann for action and overall visuals. Then the question becomes: who would Guy Pearce play? :?

I can't believe no one has mentioned Terry Gilliam yet...he's the only person who could do the visuals.

Or the Coen Brothers could direct...I've got no idea what they'd do with it, but I'm sure they'd be able to do a good job. (And they could bring in John Goodman to play Foamfollower.)

Quentin Tarantino is the only one who could do it and keep it true to the books.

Yeah... and John Travolta is Covenant

Given the choice, I'd rather see TC as a Disney musical than as a Tarantino splatterfest... :?

Upon reflection I think perhaps you are correct.
;)

How about if he just does the "Mission to Seareach" parts?
I think it would be cool if they did that side story in a Sin City type format.

Now that I could live with!

Have him direct 2 minutes of the most violent part, and gain the cache of 'Tarantino, guest-director'...

Yeah, that would be perfect. :D

Yeah... Tarantino probably wouldn't be a good choice :)

Yeah, most of the people mentioned have already developed a style of their own, and it does seem logical to have someone who has done some stuff, but also has dedication to the project to continue it and not trade off directors like Harry Potter. It worked well for Peter Jackson, and while he wasn't a complete unknown (Heavenly Creatures did raise a few more eyebrows than those of the horror fans), he wasn't well known. I can't see these other well known filmmakers continuing the saga for long. And while Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite directors, one of the big reasons is because he does Terry Gilliam films which all have wit and whimsy, but wouldn't match the style of TC AT ALL. Which isn't to say TC doesn't have wit, but y'know.

The only people I can think of who I would actually trust this with would be (1) Robert Rodriguez, even though it doesn't seem like a perfect fit because of his love of making films fun (and let's face it...these aren't the most fun stories in the world), but I feel like he would have the dedication to the project, but maybe not the staying power. And the added bonus is that they would never take a horrible amount of time to come out, as he goes through the process pretty fast. (2) Jeunet who did Amelie and City of Lost Children, just to name two of my faves from him. He has an amazing visual sense, but he also has his own style that wouldn't quite fit Covenant, much in the same way as Terry Gilliam.

Nolan is a good choice, but it seems like he will be tied up with Batman movies for a while. He certainly has moody and dark down.

But yeah, it seems we'll need someone from left field to get it right, and whose career will be based on these movies for a while. At least that is my opinion.

John McTiernan!
McTiernan just doesn't get enough credit. The guy has a knack for making the actors believable in their roles. In movies like Die Hard, Predator, and The 13th Warrior, the tough guys were believably tough instead of looking like Hollywood yuppies acting tough, a must for whoever portrays the Haruchai, in my humble opinion. McTiernan has had the financial failure of Last Action Hero haunt him for a decade, even though it wasn't his fault that Jurassic Park came out at the same time. Make no mistake, he'd be able to bring the Chronicles to life at least as well, if not better than anyone else alive.

I'd like to mention Kathryn Bigelow, who did K-19: The Widowmaker as well as Near Dark.

Director ready to make his opus

Post by Stormwarder »

Atom Egoyan can handle very complex story lines and can effectively handle emotional scenes. I don't think any "big name" directors would touch some of this material and he has covered some pretty controversial stuff. Besides, his movies have that operatic feel that needs to be in these films.
