Wow, what a creative name!

Could be doing better today. Younger son is sick with a sour tummy. Husband is in a foul mood because he was going to have older son help him out today, but he (older son) has to stay home with younger son. I was stupid enough to answer my phone, was informed that the entire afternoon shift called in sick, so I am here at work, two stories underground on a lovely Saturday afternoon.   Even cleaning up puke at home would be better than this.

Waiting out a thunderstorm now. Hopefully, when it passes, it will be a little less humid.

Wow, what a creative name!
That telescope should be placed on the wonders of the world list. It is just amazing.

I think we should nuke it.

Either that, or spread cream cheese over it and eat it.

Well, while I hate being here on a Saturday night working overtime, I think after half a shift I now have enough extra money to pay a scalper for a couple of U2 tickets.

Maybe by the end of the night, I will also have enough to pay for a ticket to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Mahler's Fifth concert next fall.

Sorry to hear you got laid off, Myste! :( What a bummer. I bet the next job you find will appreciate you way more than this company did! |G

Myste wrote:Horrible. Due to "restructuring" in the department, I got laid off this week. And of course, unemployment went up in May. I've been promised good references, and have one little freelance thing lined up, but it's hardly a consolation. :(

If anyone has any advice for dealing with the anxiety & depression of losing one's job, now would be a good time to share. Cheering up is also welcome. :Help:

On the bright side, there is now a much smaller chance that I will ever have to label pictures of animal poop again. And I no longer have to deal with the girl known variously as "The Evil One," "Lumpy," and "The Stinky Girl With The Hair." Maybe this isn't so bad a thing after all. <sigh>
Oh Myste, I am so sorry to hear this. Please email me if you need a friend - someone to chat to! I am here for you!

I feel tired, as I've been working on a new fic on fanfiction.net. Fingers are not used to so much typing. 8O

They are trying to build one of those in the next town to the west, a very upscale and yuppified town named Saline. You would not believe how many people have signed petitions and picketed against it being built.
8O 8O 8O They all claim that Wal-Mart will put all of the little chi-chi boutiques downtown out of business and will ruin the downtown area. I don't think there is much overlap in the sorts of merchandise carried, but...

It'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out. 8)

It's been very hot and humid all day. They just put a big chunk of the state under a tornado watch. Hopefully we will get a good storm or two (though not any tornados) and all of the humidity will go away. :)

I'm glad work is air conditioned. :D

Well, we got our storm alright. 8O 8O 8O The power in Ann Arbor is out, and we are now on emergency generator. 8O 8O 8O

We had our storms here yesterday and at about 2:30 am. It's awful to have to go the storm shelter in the basement in the middle of the night. No tornado though thank God.
I am feeling rather awful today, my RA (rhuematoid arthritis) is flaring up and I can hardly walk but I am feeling a bit mischievious today, I don't know why. Oh well pain pills are made for this sort of day.

Thanks, everybody. One of my (now former) coworkers made me a Guiness cake, and the world seemed a little brighter afterwards. :)

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better, Myste. :)

No tornados, as far as I know, just one heck of a thunderstorm. :) The lights were knocked out for awhile, then the emergency generator for the hospital kicked in, and all was well (though I am walking around with a big flashlight in my pocket). :) Every time I walk by the computer room, I get a chuckle. There are so many alarms screaming in there it sounds like a nuclear meltdown in process.  Guess the mainframes got mad about the power outage.
