ARC = Advanced Reader Copy. It's what comes out prior to official publication.

Heh, I'm joking. If I had a copy of the Dune ARC, I'd sell it for the thousands it must be worth.

I'm sure dANdeLION is just jokingwot is ARC copy?

However an ARC is a Advanced Reader Copy, that some readers get of novels to review from publishers, or authors themselves, or from someone they know who has access.
Generally they get them months before the release to the public, however in the case that they don't it's simply refered to as a review copy; however it probably is the uncorrected proof anyway in a lot of cases.
They are of course free.

Too bad he ain't your daddy, Rince. Still, it's already netted him a $4k profit if he chooses to sell it.

Depends on what you mean by the last Dune book, published. The last real Dune book published IMHO was Chapterhouse: Dune in 1985, written by the only Hebert, Frank Herbert.does anyone know what the last dune book was and when it was published?? I somehow got away from a few years ago.. thanks
There is some rubbish out now that his son Brian Herbert, and the incredibly inept Kevin J. Andserson have collaborated on, that are prequel novels, abominations of Frank's work - they are as follows:
Dune: Prelude to Dune
House Atreides
House Harkonnen
House Corrino
House Corrino was written in 2001
Legends of Dune
Butlerian Jihad
The Machine Crusade
The Battle of Corrin
The last of these was written in 2004 , and occur earlier in the supposed timeline than the Prelude to Dune work listed above.
The Road to Dune comes out this year *yawn* - This will contain "missing" chapters from Dune, and Dune Messiah.
Then in the most heinous news one can possible imagine; Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson are writing 2 novels, the first coming out in late 2006, entitled The Hunters of Dune, and The Sandworms of Dune, which they say is derived from some "long lost" manuscript/outline left by Frank Herbert.
*shakes head*
At any rate the last real Dune novel came out in 1985.

I think the new books are quite passable. Rather see him write them than farm it off to some butcher. Even the Dune Encyclopedia isn't that bad. I look forward to the conclusion. Imagine... Donaldson and Herbert in 2007.
Saving up for it now!
