Honestly, I personally don't care for Marion Zimmer Bradley and Katherine Kurtz strikes me as the David Webber of fantasy--fun, but that's pretty much all I can say about her stuff.
Yeah, I'd give Mary Stewart an honorable mention for her Merlin series, too.
"O let my name be in the Book of Love!
It be there, I care not of the other great book Above.
Strike it out! Or, write it in anew. But
Let my name be in the Book of Love!" --Omar Khayam
Oo difficult one, but I would say Ursula Le Guin, Katherine Kerr, CJ Cherryh and Janny Wurts when she wrote Empire with Raymond Feist. used to read Ann McAffrey but not read that for a loooong time.
Anyone remember Elizabeth Boyer? I have at least 4 or five of her books. She had a pretty good fantasy selection back in the early eighties.
Not a very deep kind of writing, and all of her plots kind of had the same developments in her books, but...at least as I remember...for the time (and my age then), they were pretty enjoyable reads.
I was looking through the prior names I mentioned and I noticed I didn't mention Carol Emshwiller, which was pretty stupid of me - so since someone brought this topic back, I feel the need to correct my prior oversight.
