Long-lost short story question

Post by Durris »

I remember reading a fantasy short story in the mid- to late 1980s called "Pink Wonder." I don't recall the author or the periodical where it appeared; the story follows a young turnip (the main character) from a truck garden in NJ to a yuppie's wok in NYC. Thus summarized, it sounds hokey, but I actually found the story charming. (In its premise, every vegetable's highest aspiration is to become part of a human being of good character--this adds an undercurrent of mysticism to the basic lightheartedness of the story.)

My searches for it on the Locus Index and on Google, and my spouse's search on the Isaac Asimov's Magazine site, have been unavailing. Can anyone provide us information to locate this story?
