PM problem

How come when I send a PM it just hangs in my outbox for 10 minutes or so (the times that I noticed maybe it's more) but then I see that someone will respond it within a few moments.
Does it not leave my outbox until the person I'm sending it to is online?
Just wondering.

I believe it does not leave your outbox until the person actually reads it, but I am certainly no expert, so might well be wrong.

Actually, you're quite right. Once it's read, it goes from your outbox to your sentbox.
