This week, I bought The Real Story at last, and an omnibus kind of thing of Michael Moorcock, out of curiosity.

My order still hasn't dispatched. I've even had to cancel Night of Knives, because I just don't think I can afford to spend £35 on a single book. Hopefully the rest will be here within the week.

Finally. I got my copy of Janny Wurts' Traitor's Knot. Took long enough. Also got the rest of my Book Expo bag back. So I have the Martin Dany chapter which was interesting. Especially as that is all AFFC will have.

And the last remaining hold out of my Australian order arrived with Kim Wilkins' Giants of the Frost.

Also the second member of our reading group got back her proofs for an as yet untitled fantasy to be published end of next year that we will all be reading and tearing apart!

The Door's of His Face, the Lamps of His Mouth by Roger Zelazny

The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro
Latest Interview: George R.R. Martin

The Bodhisattva

My amazon order has arrived (though I haven't collected it yet - as soon as I got to reception the porter decided to run off somewhere), containing:

-Gormenghast
-The Worm Ouroboros
-Tales of the Dying Earth
-Viriconium

As I said before, I've cancelled Night of Knives because of price - but I've now ordered a signed copy of The Warrior-Prophet by R Scott Bakker in its place.

I think that everybody's most recent acquisition should be by Jeff Vandermeer. So there,

I recently got an old copy of Footfall and my god what pish. What is wrong? Is it Jerry Pournelle? Am I missing the point? Alas for Larry Niven.

I agree completely. I have a few of his ARCs and most signed. I am a Vandergeek. I love Jeff Vandermeer. Do you sign up for his blog?

Vandermeer's City of Saints and Madmen is on my to-read pile already, before the ones I just recieved. Only two books to go before I start it - and it looks to be pretty good. Will certainly be looking at more of his work if I enjoy this one.

Great. This is the one that turned me onto him. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

No, but I communciated with him a week or so ago, to facilitate a interview I will conduct with him closer to the release of his forthcoming Shriek: an afteroword (which is going to be awesome) which will

Looking very forward to it, and getting to read the novel, no doubt it's going to be great. He is probably my second favorite current writer.

I picked up City of Saints and Madmen from the library the other day, once again based on the recommendations of the Watch. I'm going to give it a shot as soon as I finish re-reading Perdido Street Station. :D

Okay, so I keep going on about how I need to stop buying so many books; but what can I say? - Iron Council finally came out in paperback.

Cool. Iron Council isn't quite as good as the previous books, but still a worthy read.

On that note: I had some extra money burning a hole in my pocket and stopped off at the bookstore on the way home....

Walked out with King Rat, Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield, and the 2nd and 3rd books of the Coldfire trilogy (When True Night Falls and Crown of Shadows) by C.S. Friedman. :D

Just finished The Scar. Thought it was a better novel than Perdido Street and I loved Perdido Street. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUL!

I'm gonna check out Vandermeer next.

P.S.
Encryptic,

Your going to be Awestruck by Gates of Fire! Let me know via PM when you start reading it. And visit the Gates of Fire thread to add your $.02.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Heh...I believe I did post in that thread already. ;)

I read it a while back, and just now got my hands on my own copy. :D

Glad to see we've got another Mieville convert too. :D

I've recently read some of Vandermeer's stuff as well (City of Saints and Madmen, Veniss Underground), and if you like Mieville, you'll probably enjoy Vandermeer as well. Very quirky, but intriguing style.
