I finally saw it yesterday.
I could (and will) say more, but it could summarise my opinion in one sentence, the sentence that was running through my mind as I left the cinema: That is Batman.
Now in more detail: I thought Christian Bale was the most convincing Bruce Wayne/Batman I've seen so far. Of the previous Batmen, Keaton was the best, but Bale mops the floor with all of them. This is the film Batman should have been in the first place; less perverse than Burton's version, but much darker. The Scarecrow was genius, as was Ras Al Ghul, and the way the various sub-villains tied together was done well. One of the things that impressed me most was attention to detail; I'm not going to go into specifics, but there were a lot of little things that really made the film - Batman is in the details, as they say
I loved it so much I had a dream about it last night.
Hannah was less keen though. She's always like Tim Burton's Batman, and she enjoyed the pre-Batman background bits of this film, but she found the rest too violent, the Scarecrow too scary and the Batmobile too fast. Oh well.

I do wonder though... Is this the beginning of a new series of Bale-based Batman films, or does it just tie in with the opening of Burton's Batman? I hope this is going to be a whole new thing; this film far surpasses any other version of Batman I've ever seen.

I saw this again last night. This time, some things didn't quite fit. Katie Holmes was even more wrong than the first time, and some parts seemed to much like a cheesy action flick. But Bale impressed me even more this time round; I've never seen a darker or more convincing Batman, nor a better Bruce Wayne. And regardless of the minor flaws that have come to light, this film still wipes the floor with any other Batman.

Yeah; I kept thinking "This Batman is kind oof spooky", which is what I've been wanting to think for decades! Scarecrow was my next favorite guy in the movie, Loremaster; the only problem I had with him was I kept thinking "He would have been a GREAT Joker!". Katie Holmes; well, she might have been the wrong actress, but she acted well, and she sure was purty.....I think Gary Oldman will really work as he rises to Commissioner Gordon, too.

I hate to admit it but I really didn't care for it all that much. I kind of thought Al-Ghul's plot was a little too hokey. But I do agree that this was the best Batman and I'm interested in seeing the Joker in the next one...

This movie owned. Scarecrow was well-done, but he didn't really get to do much in the movie. Ra's al Ghul, OTOH, was excellent, and Bale was a great Batman.

we know Joker will be in the next movie, and I'm guessing Harvey Dent (aka Two-Face: the greatest villain ever - no question) will be too, since the DA was shot in "Batman Begins." I can't wait!

Regarding the hokiness of al-Ghul: heh, have you read any of the comics with al-Ghul in them? He's even crazier in those. He's centuries old, has a veritable fountain of youth (Lazarus Pits), he tries to get Batman to marry his daughter to become his heir, and is trying to conquer the whole world.
I loved him in "Begins," though.
