Best movie ever

Post by Cail »

No top 5 lists. No excuses. The film with no flaws that you can watch over and over again. The one you'll forget to mow that lawn when it comes on cable. The one you'll sit and watch in a bar.

There is only one.

Jaws. Best. Movie. Ever.

So it's the ONE movie that I would pick if I was going to be stranded on an island for the next 20 years type of thing?

With out a doubt:

Excalibur

2001: A Space Odyssey

In my mind, it will always stand apart from and tower above everything else, just like the Monolith. 8)

The Time Machine (the original); Das Boot comes a close second.

I dodn't know why, but I was actually expecting a consensus.

Wow.

Keep 'em coming.

The Princess Bride and Kill Bill (meaning both volumes together).
You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.

He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

That's wayyyyyyyyyy to hard a question. Objectively picking a best movie ever?... Hmmm well subjectively, I like 'Miller's Crossing'. A darn near perfect made movie.
If I had to ry to be objective, I would have to say....
...I can't pick. I many cases it is like picking between apples and oranges...
I'll get back to you on this one...

The reality is in this head. Mine. I'm the projector at the planetarium, all the closed little universe visible in the circle of that stage is coming out of my mouth, eyes, and sometimes other orifices also.

I wasn't joking, Emma. That is one of about two dozen films that meet Cail's criteria for me. But, Cail only wanted one, so I picked the one that I feel meets everything the most. Funny, but I think about half a dozen of my Favorite films have Tom Hanks in them.....

If you want a top 50 list from me, then you'll have to start a top 50 list thread.

Do I even need to say it? Fight Club. As far as the criteria, there are others that come close (*cough* Shawshank Redemption).
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Spoiler
OK, a close second is "Dr. Strangelove; Or How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Bomb"

Dr.Strangelove is an outstanding movie, as is The Godfather.

But not better than Jaws.
