The "Doom" movie adaptation might not suck?

Just found this on another forum and thought I'd pass it on:

www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=20755

Summary for those too lazy to read the whole thing: ;)

Apparently, the movie will be faithful to the look and feel of the Doom games, as well as the original "story" (not that there was much of one to begin with). The BFG will be in the movie, as well as zombies, demons, Hell Barons, etc. They'll even have a brief first-person sequence as a nod to the game. Id Software has been involved with the project and everyone doing the movie wanted to be faithful to the game, evidently.

They mention a brief trailer that shows the first-person sequence and it does sound pretty cool, but I want to see it for myself.

Who knows, maybe this won't be just another crappy video game to movie adaptation ("Alone In The Dark" and "Wing Commander", anyone?).

Being a longtime fan of the series I'm happy that the preliminary buzz is positive. Video game movie adaptations can be truly wasteful. The original DOOM blew me away when I first played it. The many rooms and levels of DOOM and its sequels are recognizable places in my memory as if I had actually been there. I will continue to watch and listen for more info about the movie. So far so good.

Yeah, I'm slightly hopeful about this. The original rumors I was hearing for a while were that they were going to do some cheesy "virus attacks Earth" plot instead of basing it on the "Hell invades Mars" storyline and shoot for a PG-13 rating, which pretty much killed any interest I had in it.

Then I saw this link today and now it almost sounds as if it has a chance at being a halfway decent action flick.

I never have high hopes for a video game movie, but that description of the FPS segment did sound pretty exciting.
