Shelby Foote - Man of American letters
On July 1, 2005 Shelby Foote, died of natural causes at his in Memphis home. Mr. Foote's best known writing was his three volume history of the American Civil War. After writing those tomes, his relative anonymity was breached through his appearances on the Ken Burn's documentary on the Civil War, which was based on Shelby Foote's history. BTW, Shelby Foote was a lifelong friend of the author Walker Piercy.
I'm trying to collect the Time-Life 40th anniversary series of his Civil War history. 14 volumes, but they added pics and maps and are very nice. Got 9 so far.

"Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur."
Whatever is said in Latin sounds profound.
I believe in the One who says there is life after this.
Now tell me how much more open can my mind be?

I first learned about Foote's passing in my local Sunday paper last weekend. Foote was a true Southern gentlemen in every sense of the word, and someone that I admired very much.
Godspeed, Shelby Foote.
Godspeed, Shelby Foote.
