Some of ya'll may have heard of the Myrtle's Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana. It is commonly spotlighted on the Sci-Fi Channel, History Channel, Travel Channel, plus a few others. It's reputation is that it is one of the most haunted places in the United States.

Well, I am in no way a believer in the afterlife, spirits or ghosts. But on Sunday night, August 21st, my wife and myself will be staying the night at the plantation in the General Bradford suite, which is located in the downstairs portion of the main house. It is something that we have talked about doing for quite a few years now, ever since we toured the plantation a few years back. Her birthday is August 22nd, so I surprised her by setting up this overnight stay.
If, by chance, I do come across something that I cannot explain, it will rock the very foundation that I have based everything that I have believed (or not believed) in.
Personally, I hope to encounter something that is not explainable. I need something to believe in, and this may just be the catalyst for me and a new set of beliefs and concepts.
I'll be sure to let ya'll know how this turns out.

Also, take into consideration the power of suggestion. You're in an unfamiliar place, and it's the dark of the night. So maybe even familiar sights or sounds, if experienced in the context of unfamiliar surroundings, could be perceived as something odd and mysterious. Having said that, I do try to keep an open mind about this sort of thing. It's hard, but I try.

Wow...ya know, I never realized that I never updated this thread after our trip.
Our trip was only 5 days before Katrina hit, and in all of the confusion with the evacuation and such, I never got back to this thread. If we had scheduled our trip one weekend later, we would have never been able to make it, for obvious reasons.
Well, it is kind of unclear whether we experienced anything.
The layout and atmosphere of the plantation is definately condusive to promoting the power of suggestion. We did a tour of the plantation prior to staying the night, and the tour is just full of ghost stories revolving around the plantation, and other guests experiences. At about 5 pm, the manager of the plantation left us to ourselves, and went to her off site housing, which is about 1/2 mile away from the main house in which we stayed. There was one other couple staying there that night from Texas. We never ran into them during the night, though. (The place is pretty expansive, and they were on the 2nd floor, us on the 1st). It was something like there 3rd or 4th stay there. For some reason, they keep coming back. (?)
One of the first things that my wife Stacey done when we checked into the room was place candy around various spots in the suite in which we stayed, along with a couple of other childrens toys. (Two of the ghosts who supposedly haunt the plantation are children.) Whenever we would come back into the room, she would check and see if anything that she had left had been moved, or taken. Nothing like that happened. I kept telling her that she was just gonna piss 'em off for testing them like that.
It was really kind of neat to have the run of the property to ourselves for the entire night. Parts of the plantation were off limits (the toured parts), but the entire lay of the outside area was ours to wander about in. The lighting aound the house, slave quarters, and other buildings shining through the crepe myrtles was pretty creepy, I must admit.
Anyway, through the night, nothing happened, everything was OK. But something changed with Stacey after around 1 am or so. She started to get nautious (very nautious) in the room. When we went out to the porch or courtyard, she was OK...but whenever we went back to the room, she would be on the verge of getting violently sick. Now, I never experienced this feeling, but without a doubt, something was getting to her. What, I cannot say. Was it nerves? The power of suggestion? I don't know.
After around 5 am or so, the feeling subsided, and she was then OK. I kept teassing with her that the reason that they (the ghosts) did that to her was cuz she tested them with the trinkets and candy.
Maybe, maybe not.
I would love to go back and stay again, even though I didn't experience anything. It was a really fun evening, just having the possibility of maybe experiencing something. However Stacey says that she wouldn't want to go there and stay the night again.
