avatars hosted off-site aren't controlled by the file size and dimensions limits. The larger avatars you see are linked from a URL, not uploaded.

Basically, its all Edge's fault.... ;)

Actually, I was considering making another animated avatar, so I would like to know if there is an agreed upon limit for width, length, and file size for off-site avatars.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I think the de facto limit is about the size of the Edgetars. I know mine is a bit bigger, but I think that the guilt I feel is punishment enough for that.

Perhaps we (by which I mean Jay) should make some official size-limiting rules.

So they were... A 150 pixel width limit eh? Well, I seem to be over by 31 pixels...

But just look at his little face, you can't ask me to get rid of that face can you? Eh?

Well, right now, we're pretty lax with the avatar sizes, since no one has really abused it. And I don't think we'll fight over a few pixels. I think no bigger than 150 x 200 or 200 x 150 is a good rule of thumb.

We may also want to put a limit on the file size, in the case of animated avatars. I know when I use my dialup at home, those things take years to download, heh. However, the good thing is that my browser loads the avatars last, so it's not really that big a deal.

LOL! I remember, years ago, I downloaded an avatar of a dragan, little did I know that this avatar was in fact a full sized pictures.

There were few people online back then, but it was either Danlo or Roger that pmed me, telling me my avatar caused the pages where I posted to freeze up. :P

Only if it's got Busby in it. I could send you a couple good pictures to work with... and maybe my cats?

Edge's Busby has been running in that round pen for months now. He's tired. ;)

I am thinking about having a new avatar, bigger than the 100x100 that I have now, redesigned. Lately I've bleached the background a bit.

Mine's looks like one is stuck in an arch, or caesure, or tripping heavily. So my new avatar will be a refreshing change of scenery.

These Edgetars look very nice! (Well done Edge!)

Ha! Was I the only person who saw one particular page-sized avatar a while back? :P
