Where would you most like to live?
Here's something I've been thinking about myself.....
Which of SRD's worlds - Mordant, the Land, etc.. would you most like to live in and why?

hmmmm.... my initial reaction is to "Mordant" because I loved the story so much. But I think to live in one place, I would have to pick 'The Land' ... some of the reasons mentioned by bossk. And I think, if it was still standing, I have loved to live in Soaring Woodhaven (or whatever the name of that giant tree village was...)

Another way to phrase this question might be: would you prefer to live in a more magical world (The Land) or a more mundane world (Mordant)?
The nice thing about Mordant is its relative stability: it's not the kind of place that is likely to experience apocalyptic upheavals in its populace or geography, in contrast to the Land. Mordant doesn't have a pervasive energy like Earthpower, but neither is Mordant burdened with a pervasive evil like Lord Foul lurking around to corrupt that energy. So Mordant's more "ordinary' nature is reassuring to me in a sense.
Plus, for neighbours I think I'd rather have the likes of Terisa, Geraden and Myste than judgmental types like the Haruchai and Ramen. While I do respect the devotional, puritannical culture of the Land, I think I'd have a more easy-going time in Mordant.
But then...I'd miss the Land for its egalitarian society and all its natural (and supernatural) wonders. I just think the Land might mess too much with my head.
In other words, this is a tough question.

On "Captain's Fancy" because then I could travel to wherever I want.

Definitely Revelwood. Both a place of learning and a wonderous feat of Eco-engineering among a caring, sharing community. What more could one ask?

Will you please finish Runes first?kevinswatch wrote:Wouldn't you much rather hang out on Enablement Station? Or perhaps the Calm Horizons?-jay
(I need to reread the Gap series soon. I have a greater urge to reread that then the Covenant series for some reason, heh.)

But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
Full of the heavens and time.

Well, 'on Soar' is the obvious answer, but in deference to this being a TC board, in the Land my first choice would probably be Soaring Woodhelven.
And I would want to visit Revelstone, although I don't think I would want to live there.

Ugh. That's a good point, safetyjedi. I'd panic in the absence of modern plumbing. Never mind about Mordant or the Land, then: I'll stay right here in the comfort and convenience of the "real" world.safetyjedi wrote:I always wondered where they went to the bathroom in Revelwood. This is starting to resemble the "Ever long for a simpler time?" thread in the Close.

I always thought that they had some form of High Toilet Paper that would turn their poop into hurtloam or something.

"Hey, dad," croaked the vulture, "what are you eating?"
"Carrion, my wayward son."
"Will there be pieces when you are done?"
Aw, come on folks! This is the Land we're talkin' about! Revelwood is the receptacle of all Kevin's Earthpowerful knowledge and wisdom. Do you honestly think there'd be nothing in the 1st Ward about how to turn 'waste products' into something significantly more pleasant?
My guess would be that a few incantations & your smelly stools would become fresh, steaming loaves of bread. Or fuchsias. Or maybe even hurtloam...
