Wow, I never thought of Jennifer Connelly for Morn. That fits pretty well. I'm not a big fan of hers, and I always pictured Morn as blonde with bigger...umm...tracts of land than she has, but she definitely can summon up the strength needed for Morn while also being able to pull off the beaten puppy look.

Life is a waste of time
Time is a waste of life
So get wasted all of the time
And you'll have the time of your life
I always got the impression the Morn was in her early-twenties, she's only just gotten out of the academy so for that reason alone I wouldn't have put her much older. Plus I know a few people who had streaks of grey at that age. I also like Radha Mitchell a lot, but I think she's a bit too pretty for Mikka. I suspect a Hollywood casting director wouldn't agree.
I had never thought of Holt having a Napoleon complex (SRD might even have written that he had one, now that I think about it), but for me he's an imposing and bombastic character and I automatically associate that with a big guy who's quite fat. Although, in view of his life-extension treatments, he probably isn't fat at all.

I think some of us are trying to make the actors match exactly what SRD wrote. I think in a movie, what you want to do is find the actor who can portray the character talent-wise. I'd hate to pick someone who looked like my physical vision of Angus and then have him be unable to pull off the menace and haunted fear aspects of the character's motivation.
Misanthropes of the world, unite!
In many adaptations I'd agree with you, but for many of the characters in the Gap their appearance is tied closely in with what they are and what they do. Morn has to be beautiful, Nick has to be dashingly handsome, Angus has to be fairly repulsive, Davies has to look a lot like Angus, and Mikka has to be plain. If the actors either didn't possess or couldn't be given those characteristics then the characters would be lacking some important motivations.

To my mind, Min was a long legged sultry brunette - almost like Jayne Seymour (as she was), with long dark hair.
Mikka was completely the opposite - quite short with short blonde hair, and giving the impression that she was a bit - how can I put it - oh alright then. Dirty. But she needed to be. Not pretty buth with something about her.
Perhpas I'm just fantasising.

Ron Perlman.....Good choice.

my dream cast for a Gap franchise :
Morn: I like the suggestion of Naomi Watts, I'll second that one
Angus: Billy Bob Thornton can play *ugly* - just needs to add a little around the midrift ...
Nick: Benicio Del Toro
Holt: Anthony Hopkins
Warden Dios: love the Clancy Brown suggestion
Mikka: Susan Sarandon
Vector: Alfred Molina
Milos: Paul Giamatti
Hashi: Robert Benigni

I can still see Johnny Depp as Nick. He's too old, but his appearance is mercurial enough that he could still pull it off. And he definitely has the emotional range that would be required for the role.

well...i had one casting idea for Gap and so i thought i'd read through all the posts on this thread and see if anyone else had my brilliant idea. no one did. but i like a lot of the casting choices people made! some of them were even inspired!
my favorite morn suggestion was early on in the thread and made by danlo... jill hennessy.
i have a better idea tho...heh. my girl keira!

my brilliant idea was Nick - James Spader.
there was something that Nick said, sneered really, to someone on Trumpet not too long before he went EVA with Ciro that as soon as i read it i could just HEAR james spader's nasty sneering voice saying. spader can be a real turd and i think he's got all the chops to pull of Nick better than anyone that's been metioned in this thread already (with the possible exception of Jude Law, who i adore)
and what about Jennifer Jason Leigh as Mikka?
i kept seeing Paul Winifield as Dolph, kept hearing his voice whenever Dolph spoke. of course Winifield is dead now but, ideally, i would have chosen him for Dolph. something about his delivery and Dolph's sense of humor that matched up for me.
i like ralph finnes for Milos. finnes can be just soooo weaselly, and all that nervous energy smoking nic after nic, i can just picture Finnes.
i always pictured Omar Shariff as Vector Shaheed. the kind eyes, the demeanor. i guess he's a bit too old tho. (he's not dead is he?)
i can't pick for Angus. nobody mentioned thus far has really hit the nail on the head for me altho i liked d'nofrio and rourke as notions.
all other cast alludes me now at this late hour tho, so i'm gonna think on it and come back when i have it all worked out. i know you all just can't WAIT.
