I'm ready for a new computer!
My Internet Explorer became corrupted the other day and I could not go online. I called Gateway (who I bought the computer from) and they told me that since my warranty had run out that they could not even talk to me! Now understand that I was not asking them to repair my computer, just walk me through two or three steps because I already had the disc I needed to repair the problem. They refused to help, repeating that my warranty had run out and they could not talk to me! I then called customer service to complain and she told me that if I had extended my warranty, I would not be having this problem! I could not believe my ears! I said, "So, am I to understand that you are putting this right back in my lap?" She started to say again that it was my fault that I didn't buy the extended warranty and that it would cost me $1.95 per minute for them to help me! I hung up the phone! I do not want to even touch my Gateway computer again because of this shabby treatment!
I asked my husband to buy me a laptop for Christmas!

Thanks everyone
And a special thanks to Infelice and duchess for fighting over me!

caamora, about 8 years ago, I had a horrible experience with a chain of stores called, iirc, People's Computers. It was my first computer, back when they were about $3k. I emailed their main office about it, figuring they'd want to know how their customers, definitely non-repeating customers, were being treated. Never heard back from them. Finding good customer service is such a joy. Maybe because it's so rare.
