Good post Ur-bane. Your last spoiler line sums it up about the same way I figured it.

Thanks Prebe. :D

I am re-reading Runes once again, and I am picking up more details and formulating new ideas each time.

I have a feeling I am going to be resurrecting quite a few old threads. I just hope there are others who still want to discuss them.

Excerpt from Animal Songs Never Written
"Hey, dad," croaked the vulture, "what are you eating?"
"Carrion, my wayward son."
"Will there be pieces when you are done?"

I've read the book twice and listened to the audiobook one time. Please resurrect any topic you like, I'll be there.

The basic question..

Post by lurch »

..Concerning oft repeated ..Linden is in love with a deadman....Its not that she fell in love witha deadman..its that she has done so at the Cost of Not Allowing Herself To Love a Real Man. Her three big commitments in her life are all non reciprical relationships.Tom, Jeremiah, Joan,,.As one other put it,,she is emotionally non validated. Linden is all hope, etheral stuff. Any real measurable metric applied would indicate zero gain, growth, maturing due to lack of any real feedback, input, thus no real depth to understanding cause and effect...hence her wild arse guess of giving Joan the Ring and the ensuing disaster.

She continues her head strong approach with Liand. She continues to dissuade him from the consequences that would mature his innocence. When allowed, he consistently demomstrates his willingness and sometimes ability, to rise to whichever occassion.but there is always a mock in the tone of her observing him and his actions.. At some point. she must be made to rely on him totally, for her survival. In a way he has already been there for her, in that regard at least once already. But it wasn't so much a life and death situation.
We shall see..........MEL
If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.

I had a thought. I wonder if the term "beware the halfhand" isnt directed at all 3, being the 3 humbled dopes, Jeremiah, and TC himself. The haruchai remember TC with honor. They certainly arent going to go against a child. The 3 combined makes me see it this way.
The humbled had their hands chopped to resemble TC, even though it was more a reference to Korik and Co. Jerry was building Revelstone and Mount Thunder (?), which makes me think TC had something to do with that. And TC shows up at the end of ROTE, and guess what. Linden has both staff and ring. TC has Jerry with him. The hero again. No sunbane, earthpower is again prevelant. I see those 3 at some point being responsible for the end here. The haruchai know they cant defeat someone holding that staff let alone the ring, but both? Why else would they choose NOT to take those powers from her as suggested by the humbled, or even as Stave had originally suggested or hinted at.
I see a deeper, more cunning story coming up. I agree with the statement, the next book is gonna be a wild ride. :D
