Military personnel might not like Harry Potter because he is fiercely anti-authoritative towards his mugler foster parents and other similarly "boring" adults?

Just a guess. Though that would make them hate Pippi Longstocking as well :D

Anti-authoritative??? No, not at all.
With the way he is treated by those a$$holes, it is a wonder that he hasn't turned them into muggledung.

Potter is not a rebellious, anti-authoritative kid, he's just sick of the bullsh*t from his foster parents. And I don't blame him.

But no matter what, the fact remains that Harry Potter is a fictional character in a book, for crissakes...so this "Anti-Potter" stance is utter nonsense. (Although, since Catholics seem to think the Bible is the word of God, I guess they take written words pretty seriously.)

But, I haven't heard anything new on this subject in the press, so I guess it made its headlines, and that's that. Maybe level heads prevailed after all.

Hold on to your donkeys Ur-bane! I am not anti- Potter. I was merely offering my modest suggestion why military personnel (excluding SafetyJedi) do not like Potter.

I wasn't talking about you specifically Prebe. I was referring to those who made issue with Harry Potter in the first place. Although my very imprecise language in my posts today could very easily give the wrong impression.

I think I need to sign off for good for the day since I am not clearly translating my thoughts into my statements.

Highly interesting news on the Pope:
www.suntimes.com/output/religion/cst-nws-pope17.html

VATICAN CITY -- Lawyers for Pope Benedict XVI have asked President Bush to declare the pontiff immune from liability in a lawsuit that accuses him of conspiring to cover up the molestation of three boys by a seminarian in Texas, court records show.

...

Joseph Ratzinger is named as a defendant in the civil lawsuit. Now Benedict XVI, he's accused of conspiring with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to cover up the abuse during the mid-1990s.

That is disturbing news, to say the least.

Now, are legal avenues open that will allow this allegation to be proved/dismissed without actually involving the Pope directly?
Or does diplomatic immunity mean that the allegation itself cannot be pursued?

Well, since this (supposedly) happened before the release of Harry Potter, at least Rowling is off the hook.

How come nobody blames the Lord of the Rings for anything...or do they?

The LOTR/Harry Potter Controversy

Apparently the Christian opposition to Harry Potter is nothing new.

Well, LotR did inspire D&D, and you know all the evil that has caused...
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I don't know if I posted this already but I heard on the news last week that the most requested books were Harry Potter books and there were numerous requests to see the movies.

I would just like to say that I got into a Pro-Harry/No-Harry debate on a Christian forum I go to, and I KICKED THE HARRY-HATER'S BUTTS! BOO-YAH! :)

Haha, anyway, it was kinda funny to watch them scramble for new ways of presenting the same points over and over again...
