Okay, this is the next band I hope to get into. Forgive me if there's already another thread on them. Frankly, I'm at a loss as to where to start with then. I was going to start with the "Live at the Apollo" DVD since it's on Netflix, which I use.
How good is this band? What do they sound like? Where do I start?
not to mention many music sites will offer you a "sample" of the artists prior releases, but usually only the most popular bands will be available for "previewing"....
Don't care for them. Brian Ferry's got a great voice, but RM's stuff is just too laid back for me.

Okay, after listening to 18 tracks from "Best Of Roxy Music", I now also remember "More Than This", which I actually like. But, most everything else is uninteresting to me. From what I'm hearing here, Avalon was probably their best album.

Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion
I'm afraid there's no denying

Watched 9 and 1/2 Weeks again this weekend with songs like Slave to Love and Cocker's You Can Leave Your Hat On. Jack Nitzche put the soundtrack together: it's damm good, I'll have to buy it. I was in the convenience store this morning and "Hat" was playing on the radio-I had to control myself with images of a young Kim Bassinger disrobing dancing in my head... (Avalon is great)
I forgot about this thread. I was unimpressed with the best of CD ,but a bassist friend kept arguing with me about how great Roxy was, and eventually I bought a DVD that spanned their career and I started to get into it. Then I started getting the CD's, and while I still don't like the 1st one (too much weird-assed Eno experimentation), the rest are good add the last 3 are freaking great!
Avalon is the best, too.
