Ah, speaking of downloading music, you guys might want to be a little careful over the next couple of weeks. The RIAA just had a successful case against Verizon demanding they turn over the user info of one of their clients that dl'd an obscene amount of files, basically saying that the RIAA now has a right to bring a lawsuit against anyone who shares copyrighted material (they can't shut down Kazaa like they did Napster, so they're going after the people who use it). It's kind of a reverse lottery, so if you don't have, say, a thousand files or more (pretty measly by most standards), your chances of being sued are very slim... but still, they want to scare the public, so some people will get shafted.

If you want a reason to come and live in OZ there it is. :D

So I gather I'm pretty safe with my 12 shared files?

Yeah, you should be safe. Despite the vast amount of lawyers and money the recording industry employs, you're pretty much safe anyway. I think the chances of them getting you are really slim (about as good as your chances of winning one of those McDonald's promotions)

I've only got about 200 songs...

Some of my friends have up to 1,000 songs and several movies. (Which is how I saw Matrix2 and will probably see Dreamcatcher.) But I personally can't dl movies, they are far too big.

I don't really feel bad about dling music though. I bought some CD's because of it that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Same here. The only people my mp3 habit (got about 230... maybe 400 if I throw in Hellfire's) hurts is the used CD stores.

Filesharing is very much a grey area. It is definitely illegal to share copyrighted material with others. I.e. giving them the chance to download it.

Downloading illegality depends on where you are.

Damn! :x Ares is pissing me off! Now since my version is the older one, I cannot download anything new! Also, if I wanna download anything else I have to download the new Ares, and re-download all my old songs!
