Angus smashing his helmet visor...(spoilers)

Post by Dawngreeter »

When Angus smashed his faceplate apart to see his Amnioni assailants onboard Calm Horizons in the last book, didn't he realize that he was dooming himself just to go down seeing & fighting? Or was it that he was thinking that hey, if I do this there still might be another way? Maybe he saw enough through the narrow visable portion of his visor that Vector was dead already? Fortunately Vector was totally smoked & really had saved them all by his death. What a big risk that was for Angus to do that.

What an awesome scene that was, the iris opening up...blam...Vector getting totally fried, Angus blind as a bat punching out his faceplate to see, Davies laying down a barage of fire & Angus using Vector's lifeless body as a human shield advancing toward the Amnioni firing at him while feeling the impact on his Vector shield. Man, my palms were wet after ready this part.
It was the fetid halitus of the most diseased mortality condensed to its essence and elevated to the transcendence of prophecy, promise, suzerain truth—the definitive commandment of darkness.

I think a lot of Angus' reasoning (or lack thereof) is due to his powerful instincts, which he obeys because they've saved his life too often to ignore them. With his visor damaged, Angus' destiny was in the hands of everybody in the hangar except his own and his instincts would have screamed against that. He couldn't be absolutely sure that there wasn't another way off Calm Horizons, but he probably felt that there was a pretty good chance of getting shot as long as he couldn't see. For someone like Angus, the choice between those two possibilities isn't really a choice at all.

Yes, it was either "die now because I can't see" or "take a chance that I'll be able to get off the ship somehow".

I know which one I'd choose.

I just finished the books and I have to just say wow. I didn't think that they would be anything compared to TCTC but they are incredible. As far as Angus decision it seemed to me to be a survival instinct. If he hadn't smashed his helmet so that he could see, they would have all died, where as without the helmet only he, or someone else, would need to die. The needs of the many outway the needs of the few.
