Technology questions on the gradual interview

Post by Zarathustra »

Why does this issue keep coming up? Why do people think it is so improbable that a civilazation that keeps getting beaten down into "Dark Ages" by Lord Foul, Sunbane, Kevin's Desecration, Kevin's Dirt etc. would not have developed the same technology as we have in the real world? After all, the technolgoy they are talking about has only been around in our world for about 200 years. We've had civilizations for thousands of years before the industrial revolution happened, so why this expectation for the Land? There is nothing at all improbable about technology taking many 1000s of years to develop, because that's exactly what happened on the ONLY planetary civilization we know of.

It's fantasy. Go read some Asimov if you want technology.

On top of that, they do have some pretty impressive engineering skills.
Revelstone's doors etc., anyone?

I'm getting a little tired of this issue as well. I believe SRD has explained his opinion on it quite thoroughly.

A myopic viewpoint it is too. Just because our culture took a certain time period to advance technologically, does not mean that other cultures will evolve at the same pace.

Also any culture that has magical abilities would likely evolve at a slower pace, if it all. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Every man is my superior, in that, I may learn from him.
