Where Are They Now?
I could have put this in general discussion and made it about famous people in general but in the world of music, where genres wax and wane and one-hit wonders are made and broken in mere weeks, it seems more appropriate.
So, in short, someone nominates an individual or group who have fallen off the celebrity radar, and we all take turns guessing where they are and what they're doing now. If you happen to know what they are actually doing, feel free to post it, but somehow I think it'll be funnier if we just guess.
I'll start us off:
Ricky Martin

hey, let's not forget the Spanish language album Ricky put out a year and half ago (I think.) In my opinion, his Spanish language songs are MUCH better than the N.American pop tunes he became famous for...
Check out Shakira's Spanish language album 'Oral Fixation' (translated from the Spanish), out recently. She does have an English album comiing out in November though. All different songs, too, apparently...

I saw Hootie in concert last year. Quite good, surprisingly.

Yep. Liked him on that show (saw 2 or 3 eps). Was waiting for him to go off like he did on MTV's countdown of the 10 worst videos ever. That was hilarious.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Yeah, I saw him on MTV in a show called Remaking Vanilla Ice or was it Vanilla Ice-the Re-Imageing! And that was two days ago...sgtnull wrote:i believe Vanilla Ice was on some reality show. maybe Surreal Life?
Expansion is meaningless without restriction; restriction is useless without expansion. But put them together and you get, well, a balloon.-SRD
Vanilla Ice was also on British reality show The Farm. I also recall that he was world jetski champion for a time in the late 90s.

That's great to know, Nav. I haven't kept up with any news about Kate Bush for years now. Cripes, it's been 12 years since her last studio album, The Red Shoes - unless I missed something in between then and now.Nav wrote:Kate Bush hasn't made a public appearance since 2001, but is releasing a double-album, entitled Aerial, in November.
Here's one for Canadian pop music fans: Gowan. His Strange Animal album was a favorite of mine from the '80s...then he switched to his full name, Larry Gowan, dropped his spiky '80s hairdo, and went acoustic. Unfortunately, that's when his music became forgettable and I stopped listening. He was a more interesting artist with the big hair and the single name.

I'm assuming he's at least still alive, but what he's up to these days I haven't a clue.
