Kung Fu (TOS)

Post by Fist and Faith »

What an incredibly happy surprise I got today when I found out Season 1 of one of my top few favorite shows of all time is coming out on DVD March 16!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

"I pity the fool" who hasn't ever seen Kung Fu!! As a kid, I loved it for the fights, some of which were really well-choreographed, and the philosophy. The philosophy, as I learned many years later, is taoism.

Great, great show!

I discovered Kung Fu when the Legend Continued with David Carradine and Chris Potter. That inspired me to start watching the original series. I kept copies of 11 of the original episodes, and most of the Continued series. It must be my age -- I like watching the older version of Carradine better. He's still good at evoking the mood.

"Kung-Fu" was a favorite of mine to watch.
Just after the time when it was being aired,
I was learning a little martial arts too.
(Praying Mantis-Northern style; Wing Chung; and some Drunken Monkey)
The T.V. show was heavy on the philosophy stuff too, not just the action. (Which was good also).
Not many people really heard nor knew what kung-fu was back then.

I was happy when "Kung-Fu, The Legend Continues" came out.
Chris Potter, as Caine's son, kept the modern day fourish in touch
with the old traditional ways of Carradine's character.

Another series that caught my attention was "Vanishing Son",
a "Kung-Fu" type T.V. show from the 1980's. (Anybody seen that?)
I think that only lasted for two seasons... It may had gone three.

And yet another show was Raven, which, iirc, was set in Hawaii. This was about a dozen years ago, and only laster several episodes. :(

KF-TLC really annoyed me in ways. I sort of had to look at it as a "reimaging," along the lines of the new Battlestar Galactica, because Caine was powerful way beyond what Shaolin taught in TOS. Things like turning a doorknob from the other side of the locked door by moving his hand in a circle. This was before he became the Shamballah Master, which would, I guess, allow such things. (I don't remember if he was able to turn out all the street lights with a wave of his hands before or after the Shamballah stuff.)

And yet, there were incredible moments too, and lots of the philosophy was still there.

I liked the series and still do

I liked the series when it aired originally. Probably watched it most weeks.

However, I have to add Margaret Cho's (currently my favorite comedienne) comment: "the show should have be called...HEY! That guy's not CHINESE" :D rof

Well, I guess there's at least a couple more seasons of TOS to go first. After that, maybe someone will have accidentally destroyed the Legend Continues masters, and they won't be able to do it.  (No, not a huge fan of it. heh)

That's ok. I'm not a huge fan of Buffy, and they're releasing that series. :o

*anticipates 16 seasons of Hawaii 5-O* :P

Yup, last I heard, there had been 16 seasons of Hawaii 5-O. :) Surely David Carradine played in one episode? He must have, everybody else did.

Holy cow, I had NO idea it ran that many seasons!! And I wouldn't be surprised if Carradine was in an episode. Unless, of course, the producers only got people with acting ability. IMHO, everything with Carradine that succeeded did so in spite of him.

(Yeah, I see it now. odd)

There was an H5O epi about a young beach bum in what turned out to be a murderous relationship with his father. If I went looking for Carradine, that beach bum would be the first character I would check.

(yours did that to me a few days ago. ;))

I'm watching the episode I mentioned: Death With Father. It isn't Carradine.
Spoiler
It isn't a beach bum, either, it's a drug chemist.

 Especially in a Kung Fu thread.

I could have said it with a *whispers behind hand* instead. Would you like that?

Hi all. What's this about Hawaii Five-0: The Legend Continues? :D

(Book em, Caine.)

I just can't imagine the 5-0 theme song done with a wooden flute. :?
