LA Confidential

Post by dlbpharmd »

I looked through the threads, and I didn't find anything on this 90s flick, so I thought I'd start my own thread. IMHO, LA Confidential is one of the best movies of the 90s. It stars Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe (in what I believe was his breakout role,) Guy Pearce (also the first time I ever remember seeing him, and James Cromwell. Kim Basinger  won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The movie was nominated for Best Picture, but lost to Titanic - a travesty of justice to many.

Spectacular flick! I agree with your assessment Don.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Russell Crowe is simply amazing in this movie. he is a beast. i would like to see him do more 'small' movies like this.

This is a very good film. 8)
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

Totally agree that it is one of the best movies made of that time. Very underrated. Excellent script, acting, everything! It reminds me in style and excellence of Chinatown...

Die, philistine, die! :P

Sorry...Chinatown is one of my favorite movies, as is L.A. Confidential. ;)

However, if anyone thinks the L.A. Confidential movie is good, they should read the original James Ellroy book that it was based on. They left a *lot* out of the movie that was in the book (which is excellent as well). No slight on the movie though, as the book is so twisty and turny that the movie would have been 10 times as long trying to fit everything in.

Nickolson or however it's spelled.

and i found it creepy and disgusting where Jack was lusting after Helen Hunt. hell Hollywood having any of these young women with the old, disgusting pervs makes me ill.

I totally agree with sgtnull! The height of this for me was Sean Connery and Catherin Zeta Jones in Entrapment. Gads that made me want to puke!
Having said that, Hollywood is just showing us what many males would love to have in their waning years...

i just don't want to see anymore Hollywood films where attractive young ladies are lusting after fossilized grandfathers. Connery, Jack, Harrison Ford, they need to move onto elder stesmen roles.

How about pre-fossilized fathers? (Come on, Sarge, let me dream a little.)
