Kevin's Lore after the second chronicles
Do you think it likely that the people of the Land will start studying Kevin's Lore again after the second chronicles? The Oath of Peace is no longer an issue, after all.

i think that they would, especially in the beginning. 4 hundreds of years, the ppl of the land have lived in a place dominated by the sunbane. now the sunbane is gone, leaving uncorrupted earthpower that nobody really knows much about, except 4 sunder & hollian, & they wont know everything. y would they just ignore the wealth of information about earthpower & its use contained in the 1st 3 wards that the clave kept in umberie of revelstone.
besides, the wards, especially the 1st i would guess, would contain the true history of the land, uncorrupted by the lies of the na-mhoram & his cronies. im sure that sunder & hollian would want the whole land 2 learn the truth about TC & berek & the creator, as well as everything else.
it would also give meaning 2 lives that had lost meaning. memla na-mhoram-in asked TC not 2 make her give up her rukh, the meaning of her life i think she sed, even tho she had learned that the clave was evil, the rede a lie, & the banefire an abomination. a lot of lives would have lost a lot of meaning after LA healed the land simply bcoz everything that the ppl had devoted their lives 2 was ripped out from underneath them. i think the wards & the learning contained within them would begin 2 restore some of that meaning, some of the purpose 4 living stuff.

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.
He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

I think the people of The Land might be more likely to create their own lore, much in the same way as TC had envisioned at the end of TPTP. Some people will likely read the first three Wards and begin to utilise them, but without a centralized teaching body like the Loresraat the amount of people who would learn in this way would be limited. I'd expect the lore of the new land to be a hybrid, largely made up of new lore with a bit of the three Wards thrown in.

Have you taken into account the fact that those who achieve mastery of Kevin's Lore lives for a very long time? This means that they could actually teach people personally. We do not know that there actually was a Loresraat during the time of the old Lords, they might have taught everyone individually.
Another thing is that the people of the Land might have to create their own lore due to changes wrought after the creation of the wards. (Breaking of laws of death and life, destruction of old SoL, creation of new SoL)

I also tend to think the people of the Land would have created their own lore to replace their former reliance on the Sunbane for their survival. So I would think that their new lore would be very practical and focused on healing the Land.
Also, if they don't constrain themselves with an Oath of Peace, they might have developed very potent lore.

YOU'RE SRD???
Well, without the Oath of Peace, they should be able to fully master the first 3 Wards, which would lead to the 4th-6th. But, as Ryzel says, things are very different than they were when Kevin was alive, so the Wards might not work the same. New lore might be necessary.

now that would b interesting. there arnt many demondim left, so some of the remaining ur viles or waynhim mite actually consent 2 teach ppl about their own lore. there is also the lore of the giants, which they may b willing 2 teach after helping TC & LA & all that. so i think that woteva lore eventually develops will probably have some basis in the wards, but also be a mixture of many other things as well.

I know it's been awhile since anyone has posted to this thread. But I have been doing some thinking about this very subject as I ponder the Third Chrons.
If what happens what I "think" may happen in the third chrons, which is...and don't laugh.. Covenant, who Donaldson will most likely bring back, much in the way Hollian was, becomes the new "Lord-Fatherer", thus completing his parrallel to Berek. Berek and Covenant both have the titles "Halfhand" and "Earthfriend". Anyway, with this possibility in mind...I am remembering what Mhoram said at the end of TPTP.."we will acquire no lore which precludes Peace." I think Covenant, as the new High Lord, with a "living" Saff of Law will try to delve into the first three wards. Yet, the new Saff of Law was not made by the One Tree. It is made from Findail, Earthpower Incarnate, but it is also made from Vain, who is the pinnacle of all the Demondim lore. This to me means that some of Kevin's Lore may no longer be "valid", for lack of a better word. So much is unknown about the Demondin, but I think that it will need to be learned to weild the new Staff. The Demondin were not evil until they were seduced by the Ravers. Covenant is going to want to have some kind of Oath of Peace, but I believe Kevin's Lore will be abandoned and more emphasis will be placed on the Demondim lore. The Laws are not the same anymore either. The Laws of Life and Death have been broken, the Earthpower was corrupted and Linden only set it on the start of healing. The Elohim have been "shadowed"...and then there's Foul, who is smoldering somewhere, regenerating himself again with some new Bane, I'm sure. And let's not forget. Covenant is now the wild magic personified. He's the keystone to the Arch of Time. I think the Lore of Wild Magic will be paramount on the new Lords' minds. And, I believe that lore rests with the Demondim.
Well, I'm babbling again. As I read and re-read WGW I can see so many doors open to the Third Chrons. These are just some random thoughts as to where those doors will lead. But, who knows what Donaldson has up his sleeve

This is why I'm so *stoked* to attend Donaldson's reading tomorrow! I'm really, really hoping that he reads from a different section of the Third Chrons than he has in the past (I've only seen reports of him reading a section whereFurls Fire wrote:Well, I'm babbling again. Spoiler
Linden was running with the Ranyhyn).
As soon as the reading is done (IIRC it's scheduled to be 50 mins long), I've got to HUSSLE back to the Albuquerque airport to catch my flight back to Phoenix.
Next time, I'm scheduling my SRD conventions much farther in advance so I don't have to schedule my flight an hour after his appearance!

oh wow, I hadn't heard that part about
I recall an interview Donaldson did a few years back where he said that he saw no reason why Covenant can't come back. For me, he has to have a central role in them, or it wouldn't be the same story. That's just me tho.
I'm really happy for you and Danlo getting to hear the read!! I sure wish I could attend!! Have a great time! And bring us all back lots and lots of info!
Peace,
Furl
