The Blue Oyster Cult Appreciation Thread

Post by Sorus »

By popular demand...

(Or at least in the general interest of not hijacking the favorite lyrics thread.)

I'm still stuck on Workshop of the Telescopes
By silverfish imperetrix, whose incorrupted eye
Sees through the charms of doctors and their wives
By salamander, drake, and the power that was undine
Rise to claim Saturn, ring and sky
By those who see with their eyes closed
They know me by my black telescope

Your green tree mantle from which these things derive
A lens of quartz and refract spoke that crystal lens
Whose crystal rope once bound me to those
Doctors and wives

When my vision was oh, so cloudy
And I saw things through two eyes
I am a sailor on the raging depths
And I know a thing or two
Back to the corner mates and over the side
Yes I know a thing or two

By silverfish imperetrix, whose incorrupted eye
Sees through the charms of doctors and their wives
By salamander, drake, and the power that was undine
Rise to claim Saturn, ring and sky
By those who see with their eyes closed
you'll know me by my black telescope

Before my great conversion when the ridge was closed
Before my visit to the workshop of telescopes

By silverfish imperetrix, whose incorrupted eye
sees through the charms of doctors and their wives
By salamander, drake, and the power that was undine
Rise to claim Saturn, ring and sky
By those who see with their eyes closed
you'll know me by my black telescope

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

The song that started me banging me head! :R

Dominance and Submission Lyrics:
Oh yeah

I spent ten years, half my life
Just getting ready, then it was time
Warpage in my figures, radios appear
Midnight was the barrier, back in 1963

Each night the covers were unfolded
Each night it’s susie’s turn to ride
While charles, the one they call her brother
Covers on his eyes
Murmurs in the background
It will be time

Oh yeah

Susan and her brother, charles the grinning boy
Put me in the backseat, and they took me for a ride
Yeah, the radio was on - can’t you dig the locomotion
Kingdoms of the radio, 45 rpm
Too much revolution, then

Each night the covers were unfolded
Each night it’s susie’s turn to ride
While charles, the one they call her brother
Covers on his eyes
Murmurs in the background
It will be time

It’s past midnight said charles the grinning boy
And looking at me greedily, said it’s 1964

In times square now people do the polka
Dominance....submission...radios appear
This new year’s eve was the final barrier
Dominance....submission...radios appear
We took you up and we put you in the back seat
Dominance....submission...radios appear
From year to year we looked out for the venture
Dominance....submission...radios appear
Dominance....submission

Alternate lyrics to Black Blade? There are a couple of lines here I've never heard in a recorded version...
I have this feeling that my luck
Is none too good
There are ruins in my past
There are ruins in my destiny
And this sword here at my side
Don't act the way it should
Keeps calling me its master,
But I feel like its slave
Hauling me faster and faster
To an early, early grave
And it howls - Oh, it howls
Like Hell...

Well,
I'm told it's my duty to
Fight against the Law
That there's freedom in
My blade
And that wizardry's my trade,
And that I was born to wade
Through gore...
I just want to be a lover
Not a red-eyed screaming ghoul
I wish it'd picked another
To be its killing tool
And its cosmic song - it
Goes on too long.
Black blade!
Black blade!
Forged a million billion years ago
Black blade!
Black blade!
Killing so its power

Can grow and grow
Black blade!
Black blade!
Bring Chaos to the
World we know

And its using me to
Kill me friends
Getting stronger so the
World will end

Forcing my mind to bend
And bend and bend
It's the evilest weapon

That ever was made
Black blade!
Black blade!
Singing for eternity
Black blade!
Black blade!

Carving out my destiny
Bringing in the Lords of Chaos
Bringing up the Beasts of Hades
Sucking out the souls of heroes
Laying waste to Knights
And Ladies

There is Death from the
Beginning to the End of Time
Death in the Flames
The Earth, the Sky, the Sea
And I am the Cosmic Champion
And I hold the Mystic Sign
And the whole world's dying
And the burden's mine
And the black sword keeps on
Killing 'til the end of time
Doesn't care if I am willing
And it's howling, howling, howling
-Howling like Hell...
Black blade!
Black blade!

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

It's sort of a goofy pop song, but I always liked Dancin' in the Ruins...
Tomorrow soon turns into yesterday.
Everything we see just fades away.
There's sky and sand where mountains used to be.
Time drops by a second to eternity.
It doesn't matter if we turn to dust;
Turn and turn and turn we must!
I guess I'll see you dancin' in the ruins tonight!
Dancin' in the ruins!
Guess I'll see you dancin' in the ruins tonight!

There's laughter where I used to see your tears.
It's all done with mirrors, have no fears.
There's nothing pure or sacred in our time.
The nights we spent together are no crime.
It doesn't matter if we turn to dust;
Turn and turn and turn we must!
I guess I'll see you dancin' in the ruins tonight!
Dancin' in the ruins!
Guess I'll see you dancin' in the ruins tonight!

Like marble statues always flowing lay,
From castles built in silence, let us play.
Even though our skulls rot in our flesh.
We can build a laser, tear the mesh.
It doesn't matter if we turn to dust;
Turn and turn and turn we must.
I guess I'll see you dancin' in the ruins tonight! Dancin' in the ruins!
Guess I'll see you dancin' in the ruins tonight! Dancin' in the ruins!
Guess I'll see you dancin' in the ruins tonight! Dancin' in the ruins!
Guess I'll see you dancin' in the ruins tonight!
Dancin' in the ruins!

Moon Crazy

Did you catch the fever
Flying toward the moon?
Sailing in space to a distant shore
You kind of wondered
What they came here for

We lived days for lovin'
Falling for all we met
A world gone crazy from the lunacy
The tides kept rising and falling
Like you and me

Moon crazy
Summer of changes
Let the night shine on (and on) and on
Shine on until the feeling is gone
Dreaming about, what could it be
Summer's embraces
Had a hold on me

On the hill they danced 'til dawn
While the video flickered along
But in your heart was an empty need
You just didn't know
Where the dream would lead

Moon crazy
Summer of changes
Let the night shine on (and on) and on
Shine on, shine on

Moon crazy
Summer of changes
Let the night shine on (and on) and on
Shine on until the feeling is gone
Dreaming about, what could it be
Summer's embraces
Had a hold on me

Moon crazy
Summer of madness
Let the night shine on (and on) and on
Shine on until the feeling is gone
Dreaming about, what could it be
Summer's embraces
Had a hold on me

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Cities On Flame, (with rock & roll), :R
My heart is black, and my lips are cold
Cities on flame with rock and roll
Three thousand guitars they seem to cry
My ears will melt, and then my eyes

Oh, let the girl, let that girl, rock and roll
Cities on flame now, with rock and roll

Gardens of nocturne, forbidden delights
Reins of steel, and it's alright
Cities on flame, with rock and roll
Marshal will buoy, but Fender control

Let the girl, let that girl rock and roll
Cities on flame now, with rock and roll

My heart is black, and my lips are cold
Cities on flame with rock and roll
Three thousand guitars they seem to cry
My ears will melt, and then my eyes

Let the girl, let that girl rock and roll
Cities on flame now, with rock and roll

I love Moon Crazy--great beat. Here's another old fav:

Flaming Telepaths

Well i've opened up my veins too many times
And the poison's in my heart and in my mind
Poison's in my bloodstream
Poison's in my pride
I'm after rebellion
I'll settle for lies

Is it any wonder that my mind's on fire
Imprisoned by the thoughts of what to do
Is it any wonder that my joke's an iron
And the joke's on you

Experiments that failed too many times
Transformations that were too hard to find
Poison's in my bloodstream
Poison's in my pride
I'm after rebellion
I'll settle for lies

Yes i know the secrets of the iron and mind
They're trinity acts, a mineral fire
Yes i know the secrets of the circuitry mind
It's a flaming wonder telepath

Well i've opened up my veins too many times
And the poison's in my heart and in my mind
Poison's in my bloodstream
Poison's in my pride
I'm after rebellion
I'll settle for lies

Is it any wonder that my mind's on fire
Imprisoned by the thoughts of what to do
Is it any wonder that my joke's an iron
And the joke's on you

Now here's a wicked one...
Harvester of eyes, that’s me
And I see all there is to see
When I look inside your head
Right up front to the back of your skull

Well that’s my sign that you are dead
My list for you checks off as null
I’m the harvester of eyes

I’m the eyeman of tv
With my ocular tb
I need all the peepers I can find
Inside the barn where you find the hay

Just last week I took a ride
So high on eyes I almost lost my way
I’m the harvester of eyes

Harvester of eyes, that’s me harvester of eyes
And I see all there is to see harvester of eyes
When I look inside your head harvester of eyes
Right up front to the back of your skull harvester of eyes

Harvester of eyes

My-my-my-my-my
My-my-my-my-my
My-my-my-my-my-my
I’m the harvester of eyes
I’m just walkin’ down the street
I see a garbage can, I pick it up
I look through all the garbage
To see if there are any eyes inside
I’ll put ’em in my pink leather bag
And take all their eye balls
And I bleed with ’em
As I plead with their eyes all night
So if you see me walkin’ down the street
You’d better get out of the way
And put on your eye glasses
’cause I’m gonna take your eyes home with me

And I've gotta post.....
Parched land no desert sand, sun was just a dot
And a little bit of water goes a long way, ’cause it’s hot
Three good buddies were laughing and smoking in the back
Of a rented ford
They couldn’t know they weren’t going far

Each one with the money in his pocket
Could go out and buy himself a brand new car
But they all had the money they had
Money they hoped would take them very far

The sky was bright, a traffic light, now and then a truck
And they hadn’t seen a cop around all day
They brought everything they needed
Bags and scales to weigh the stuff
The driver said the border’s just over the bluff

It wasn’t until the car suddenly stopped
In the middle of a cold and barren place
And the other guy turned and spilled
Three boys blood, did they know a trap had been lain?

They’re ok the last days of may, I’ll be breathing dry air
I’m leaving soon, the others are already there
You wouldn’t be interested in coming along, instead of staying here
They say the west is nice this time of year

I think that's one of the many things I like about BOC. Both the music and the lyrics work so well together. Sure, there are some lyrics that make me cringe now (say, The Marshall Plan or Let Go), but by and large, their lyrics are great.

Speaking of which, did anyone else ever send away for the lyrics? There was an address on the back of the LPs that'd send 'em to you for free.

That's one of my all-time favorites, for music and lyrics. 8)

Currently listening to:

Take Me Away

Strange shapes light up the night
Never seen them though I hope I might
Don't ask if they are real
The men in black, their lips are sealed

Fantasy it fills my mind
To leave this place before my time
Release myself from earthly care
My dream may be your nightmare

I turn my hopes up to the sky
I'd like to know before I die
Memories will slowly fade
I lift my eyes and say
Come on, take me away
Come on, take me away

Come here, girl, close to me
A thousand stars your eye can see
First star we see tonight
I wish I may I wish I might

I turn my hopes up to the sky
I'd like to know before I die
Memories will slowly fade
I lift my eyes and say
Come on, take me away
Come on, take me away

I turn my hopes up to the sky
I'd like to know before I die
Memories will slowly fade
I lift my eyes and say
Come on, take me away

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Revolution By Night is a great album. Their last really good one too.

BÖC is my favorite band of all time. Was recently watching "Lords of Dogtown" and noticed that they used "The Red & The Black" in the movie -- awesome and somewhat obscure choice for a movie (almost made them look like fans).

I like the choice of songs on this thread. Secret Treaties is my favorite album, if I have to pick among the first three.

Have any of you heard the new stuff? Specifically, Curse of the Hidden Mirror and Heaven Forbid?

I don't have either of those yet. (For shame!) Need to pick them up one of these days.. er, years.

Is that about when John Shirley started writing lyrics?

I need a time machine so I can go back and see Black & Blue on the big screen.

Monsters

Keep goin' getting higher
New worlds waiting in the sky
Escape the feasting and the hunger
Not the monsters in our minds

Got our hands on a ship
And stole away into the night
The four of us and Pasha dear
She to steer and we to fight

Fed up with rules and regulations
No more laughter left on Earth
Outer Space our one salvation
May God help us in our search

We fled so fast that we grew younger
Put the ship on cruise control
We all did our best with Pasha
But not as good as good ol' Joe

Monsters, monsters, monsters.....In the night
Monsters, monsters, monsters.....In black and white
Monsters, monsters, monsters.....Out of control
Monsters, monsters, monsters.....When you're alone
Monsters, monsters, monsters.....Feed on themselves
Monsters, monsters, monsters.....On the road to hell

Love never should have entered
It was never in the plan
We were finally going to have her
And let Joe be damned!

Joe awoke from a stupor
It was clear something was wrong
He rushed in and found us with her
And in his rage he aimed his gun

One shot and it was over
Pasha smiled and then was gone...

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?
