Capote ?
Hasn't anyone seen this yet? I saw the trailer, and Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance looked like it was going to be one of the awesome things in it. Somehow I have to find time in my schedule to see it.

I finally got to the theater.
There aren’t really any spoilers to give—its impact is through the emotions, not through plot surprises. But just in case:
It’s beautifully restrained at the same time as it is leaving you aghast. A brilliant piece of work...
But a movie to admire, not to like.

Spoiler
Philip Seymour Hoffman put on Truman Capote, skin and mannerisms, like a suit absolutely tailored for him. Capote is considered by some to be the father of popular history, with his IN COLD BLOOD. The film is about his research for that book, but it isn’t a detective film in any way. Capote and his assistant (Catherine Keener) go to the little town where the family was killed, and worm their way into the confidences of everyone who knew the murdered family. We can see the contradictions in what Truman is doing, because he is so smoothly manipulative, but also, you can’t be that successful with people without a little sincerity. Then, when the killers are caught, he does the same thing with them, only magnified. These guys are fighting for their lives—they are admittedly guilty—and Truman is fighting for his book. He starts to really care about one of the killers, while using him and being horrified by him at the same time. The way Truman’s inner conflicts tear at him is the main thread of the movie.
But a movie to admire, not to like.

Didn't like the movie, but Hoffman was great (as usual).

Movie trivia
Capote trivia. Dan Futterman (spelling wrong, I think) one of the writers of the film and a long time friend of Hofmann's, is also a part time actor and for many many years played the younger brother to Amy Brennerman (Judge Amy Gray) on Judging Amy. BTW, on the series Futterman's character was a writer.
