I believe in ahimsa myself, which code 24b on page 345 of its Advanced instruction manual states:
You think ants consider all life sacred? Nah! Why should we give them anything different? We should be patting ourselves on the back for how nice we are to the other species. The true course of nature is one of "kill or be killed". Every day you'll see it on some show on the Discovery channel. Animal A is killing Animal B and then eating him raw. Yes, the wonders of nature! And with great ferocity, the Buddha thus struck down the ant hill in his backyard.

Well, it's true. That's the way the world works--wild animal-wise, that is.
And sorry, but it's either call Cooks Pest Control and don't feel bad about it in the morning, or get on the floor and look under the couch, apologizing to all the cockroaches for ending their sacred Chi.
I humbly choose the former over the latter!

True, but if I recall ahimsa correctly, one has to evolve above his animal programming. Through compassion we eliminate suffering.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I agree. That's what I've been saying. As individuals, we're pretty much compassionate to the other creatures. And it's easy to be compassionate, because we're more advanced than they are and no longer need that animal, hunter-gatherer programming. We don't have to stalk and chase some Hagen Das for five miles across the Sahara, now do we? Nah, we just order our food to come to us, these fine days! I mean, instead of killing them face-to-face, we let a few food corporations that mass-slaughter them with systematic, machine efficiency do it! Anyway, just wait until the dolphins grow apposable thumbs--THEN we're through, I tell you!! That's it for us monkeys!

U've missed the whole point Fouling, but then again u wanted 2...if part of ahimsa is never harming or killing a living thing, even in one's thoughts then how can I accept mass killing or the killing of any animals? More advanced? I seriously doubt it. Obviously suffering is caused by egomanics who believe they r more advanced than other beings, be they human or not. In someways I'm sure a butterly is more "advanced" than I...
Like you I feel no need 4 religion, yet u endlessly hound my own personal worldview? Y is that? It's so strange...
(p.s. if u stomp my butterfly
I'll kick ur ass!!!

I'm not saying accept it, but the thing is, I'm pointing out the hypocrisy in a society where I've seen lots of people go, “I hate them killing those poor animals!” And then they go order a chicken sandwich or a hamburger or whatnot, which is kind of hypocritical to me. If they feel for the animals so, wouldn't they eat veggies or something? At least veggie burgers! Those things are actually good.
