Who do/did you hate?

Post by Spring »

Well? Umbridge, the stupid bitch for me. I hate though, the things she did to Harry...

I also hate Fudge, Rita Skeeter, and, for some reason, Cho Chang. I don't know why, I just do.

And then there are the generic hates: Malfoy, Snape, Voldemort, the usual.

Who do you despise?

8O gee, my list doesn't come anywhere close to yours...
There are few characters I hate(and we are talking about them as people, not as characters necessary to a story, to which I probably hate none). But I guess Lucius Malfoy and Rita are two that I wouldl ove to jump in to the story and give them a good shaking!

Rita Skeeter, Pansy Parkinson, Umbridge, Fudge, Dawlish, Bellatrix, the Dursleys... I guess that's it. I think I kinda hate Percy, too.

Snape's one of my favorite characters, so how could I ever hate him? :P The Malfoys are too entertaining to hate (especially now that we've seen another dimension to Narcissa), and Voldemort - well, I like reading about him, so it's a bit hard to hate him, too. Mostly, the characters I don't like are the obnoxious ones who are no fun to read.

Yes, there is a difference between hating a person, and enjoying reading about them.

Percy: I don't really like him, but hopefully he will amend his idiocy in 7.
Malfoys: I enjoyed reading about Narcissa, actually, in Spinner's End.

Did anyone else think that Spinner's End meant that someone was going to die?

EDIT: How can you like Snape, Alynna, after HBP?

First, because I have hope for his redemption despite JKR's hints to the contrary. Second, because he has a sarcastic, dry sense of humor that I greatly enjoy. Third, because he is a scheming bastard who will, I think, turn out to have been playing the situation to ensure his survival (and being a survivor, I appreciate that despite the moral ambiguities involved). Fourth, he's fun to read! He swoops around insulting people, he's dark and mysterious and Slytherin... I think I enjoy reading him for the same reasosn JKR enjoys writing him. Still, the first reason I listed is the most important, to me. I see him as capable of redemption, and I seem to have a weakness for bad-boy characters like him (Sandoval from Earth: Final Conflict was another one, if you've ever seen that show).

Ah, yes. I understand now. I like reading about him, but I don't like him. You like both. Got you.

The only one I truly hate is Umbridge. She has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I do find many characters such as Rita, the Dursleys, and all house elves to be extremely irritating, though it doesn't tip into actual hatred.

I like Snape. He is a deliciously gray character in a world where most of the people are either black or white. :) I could see him turning out to be either good or evil in the end, and with it being completely plausible in either direction. :) He is by the far the most interesting character in the series. :)
Love as thou wilt.

Ron mostly because of GoF - he's a whiney little pain in the backside.
Dumbles because I think he manipulates things a bit too much, and the gleam in his eye when Harry told him how Voldie had come back to life in GoF really bugged me.

And, yeah, fandom.

Spoiler
I think Snape did redeem himself in HBP. I believe he was following DD's orders to kill him. Snape resisted, and DD begged him to follow through on killing him as they discussed, DD would never beg for his life, so he must've been begging him to do as instructed and kill him, saving Malfoy from crossing the line into killing, and saving Snape from the reprecussions of breaking an Unbreakable Vow. Also, as he was running away, it's quite obvious, he was still teaching Harry to get control of his emotions, when trying to do "powerful" magicks.
From a literary sense, I love all the characters (aside from that witch Cho Chang who tried to steal Ginny's man). I even love watching Dobby's screen time in COS, which annoys the heck out of alot of people. As far as knowing them in real life, all the usual "Dark side" characters and Lockhart, Umbridge, Snape, Rita, Fudge.

I love Snape. He's the top o' the heap!

I do not like Cho Chang much as I find her insipid "why me" moaning to be dreadful. Also, I do not like Percy, nor the holier than thou and bigoted Malfoys.

btw, I agree with your assesment contained in the blocked out spoilers.

Ya know, I can understand hating Dumbledore. Now that I think of it, I kind of hate him too. You're supposed to hate characters like Umbridge, but Dumbledore... he's kind of annoying. I was glad when he got whacked at the end of bk. 6. I hope he stays dead.

I know why I hate Cho Chang...she got in the way of Harry and Hermione gettin together@!!!..

i always disliked Snape, but I still think he and Dumbledore had a plan from the beginning, and hes still following that plan...

yeah...Umbridged sucks..

I dont really hate Malfoy anymore...I kinda feel for the guy...i really dont think he was really "evil" per ce..i think he just hated Potter, loves his fater, and just wants to make them proud..like every bully, pretty much...(well, maybe not loves his father, but...seeks his approval?)...

and ginny...Harry was Hermiones@!@@!!@!!
Think on that, and be dismayed

What series have you been reading? It's always been so obvious that Ron and Hermione were destined to be together. Where did all these people get that Harry and Hermione belonged together, they're like siblings. Even JKR was amazed when the 'ship fights continued after Goblet of Fire :P

Often I am slow, so I just realized something which is likely plain to others in this sentence from despiser... Malfoy is pretty much like Snape in this sence, the way Snape hated James (the only difference i guess is that Malfoy is a 'leader' of sorts). But it is the hate (and his father) that pushes him to the Deatheaters. Snape is probably latching on to that and sympathizing, using that knowledge to try and bring him back. Which is why he has no problem in commiting to an Unbreakable Oath (or whatever it is called) to protect Malfoy.

<shrug> just writing aloud.

Agreed. There are lots of parallels between Draco and Snape. I think the difference you mention of Draco being a leader, and Snape not so much so, and also the difference that I think Snape was probably more embittered by a deprived life, and therefore had more stomach for "evilness". I think the reason DD may have trusted Snape so much is because he took an unbreakable oath to protect Harry, and I think DD also wanted to pull Draco back from the abyss.
