AEON FLUX - Cancelled all review screening. Uh, not good.

Post by aTOMiC »

If any of you were looking forward to AEON FLUX I would be a little worried about now. I like Charlize Theron as much as the next guy but every trailer and screenshot I've seen so far looks like crap. Unless the filmmakers are deliberately holding back the good stuff (which would be nice for a change instead of being exposed to the best a film has to offer before you get the chance to really enjoy it at the theater) I'm betting cancelling all review screenings is a very very very bad indication. From what I've seen so far there is very little visual to get excited about. There's no background. It looks like the entire film was shot in the parklike entry to a Prudential Insurance office complex and that's pretty much it. "I've got a bad feeling about this."

 ... same here... I was kinda excited when I heard about this project, having seen only three episodes of the series, but was interested to see if they could keep the weirdness of it all.
I thnk this will flop terribly (or well, depending on how you word this)

Gah! I was hoping this was going to be good. I did watch the trailer a few times and I thought the sets did a reasonable job of illustrating the artificial wholesomeness of all things Breen. Nothing special though and the shots in Monica looked like generic post-apocalyptic stuff.

I thought the cartoon was great but I always thought it would be hard to bring the characters, especially Aeon herself, to live action. No real person was ever going to be thin enough, but from what I've seen of Charlize Theron in character the hair isn't ridiculous enough, the costumes are too conservative and she appears to be underplaying what is really an over the top character.

The one person who put a review on the imdb seems quite impressed, so I'll reserve my final judgement for when I go and see it. If it ever gets released.

Darn it, this looked like a really interesting movie. I knew nothing of it until I saw the TV ads. Well, I can only hope you're wrong about the film's suck factor, aTOMiC, but I fear you may be right. I hope for Charlize Theron's sake that this doesn't turn out to be a bad career move on par with Halle Berry in Catwoman.

I had only heard about AEON FLUX before the film trailers started appearing. I know nothing of the story or the source material. My reaction is born from an honest ignorance. However I'm not sure if my opinion would chance if I were a long time fan. What I've seen so far just doesn't look appealing. I'm willing to be suprised by a terrific film though. I agree with you Matrix. It would be a shame if Charlize fell into the Catwoman/Elektra crap trap.

Well apparently Peter Cheung was never happy with the idea of Aeon Flux as live action and has been pressing for a feature length animation for some time. The DVDs of the series have just been released in the states and he hoped that strong sales, coupled with the movie enjoying some success, would enable him to secure the feature.

I'd like to see that, but if the film bombs then it may never happen.

Confusion joins boredom in 'Aeon Flux'
By BOB LONGINO
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Let's not mince words about Charlize Theron's trip, fall and go boom futuristic action film "Aeon Flux": It's as enjoyable as acid reflux....

I just watched this last night and I was very happily BLOWN AWAY!!!--left me itching for a sequel, perhaps a bit less tame-- I've followed it, on and off for about 12 years. It's not going to be what the purists want, I'm sure--but compared to other films out there-damm GOOD!
fall far and well Pilots!
