New Forums for other authors? - The Library

Post by kevinswatch »

Don't look at me, blame Sky for asking me, heh.

Anyway, yeah, I set up a section for Forums for other authors you may wish to talk about. Apparently there was a request for a J.K. Rowling Forum from Tuvor. Now, I still don't know about the idea, but I decided to go ahead with it. I guess it's no problem if people want to talk about some of the bigger fantasy series in their own forum. What do you all think? I can probably expand the Library to include a few more authors, but I don't want to get crazy with it.-jay

I approve. We're bound to discuss other authors from time to time, and having a designated forum stops things getting too messy :P

So...will it be used...or not? If you all don't need to post there, if it's just a redundant version of the General Fantasy Forum, then I can just take it down, Heh.-jay

It's a good idea. I think people are just hesitant about being the first to post a new thread.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I would post there because I read a lot of non-fantasy books. However, I don't happen to be reading one right now! :)

I think the Gen Fantasy forum is where we should dicuss other authors. For instance, there are two successful Harry Potter/Rowling threads in there, while there isn't a single post in the new Rowling Forum.

*whines annoyingly* What about a Barbara Hambly forum? :(

Lawd, even I, internet challenged as I am, could handle that... :D
Beware of cutlery. It is violent. And sharp.

I second the notion of a BH forum. (Though I have no interest in moding)

Notice, my sig is from The Silicon Mage. :) Me loves that book. :)

I still think The Library makes no sense when we have Gen Fantasy. :?

The thing about Gen Fant is it's a big mish-mash (part of its charm, imo). It's pretty hard to pin down a specific post about a specific author. Also, Cov. Jr is correct in that sci-fi tends to get the short end of the stick.

In fact, I'll even head a thread on Gene Wolfe, if needed.

Come on, caam, you don't have to be reading one right now! :) Who's your favorite author? I'll be glad to post about Ayn Rand and Hermann Hesse if anybody knows how to make forums for them.

So re-name the forum Gen Literature like I did on my board. Last time I checked, KW was an SRD website, not JK Rowling, etc.

I could champion a forum on Anne Rice, Stephen Lawhead or David Gemmell, though of the three, Gemmell is my forte, and he's firmly fantasy...
