Being

Being (1980)
--------------------------------------------------
There is no head here
surface engraved
images-someone else's ways
pound on the walls of the brain
inside
deep

Listen
stop
fighting
you are what you are

So many eyes we have met stay in mind
the mind of someone looking back at you
reflect for sometime
stories, not of the heart, mirrors of the mind
leaves fall on the ground
you know they're falling-you feel it
you know it's Fall

There should at least be windows
I should be outside
I'm not happy here
in this padded mental cell...

This is the first poem I've edited and posted in awhile (probably the influence of listening to Fly to the Rainbow, written around the same time). Another thing that stikes me as interesting is that I wrote this before I ever read Mordant's Need.

Awesome poem, danlo! Glad to see you posting some of your stuff again. Have you written any new poems? You must, or I will make you a Foultar!

reminds me of something i wrote...
she is in there,
beneath skin
beyond muscle
before bone...

i like

leaves fall on the ground
you know they're falling-you feel it
you know it's Fall
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

I don't know if I should have added "padded", it's not in the original version. :? (there are more of my poems buried further down the Hall, if you're interested...)

>double posted, sheet (Ah waited 2 years fer...)! Anyway I just edited this poem and I think that makes it even better. I really haven't been able to stand the beginning a number of times I've looked at it, and then it screams: let it be! Sort of a zen poem as when I edit it, every now and then, it shines brighter. :D
