I 3rd that Furl! I aslo love everything that takes place on the Isle of the One Tree; the strange mists, the battle of Brinn v. the Kenaustin Ardenol and (tho I almost do during the above stated scene) I seriously weep at the lost of Cable Seadreamer...1 of the greatest characters ever created!

Oh yes, danlo...the end of the One Tree left me feeling so defeated, just like Covenant. So very sad.

Another one that always envokes a flood of tears for me is at the very end of TPTP when the Creator gives Covenant a glimpse of the celebration at Glimmermere:

Chapter 21: Leper's End, The Power That Preserves

As he watched, they drew close to Glimmermere and fell silent. High Lord Mhoram waited until they were all attentive, ready. Then he lifted up his voice.

"People of the Land," he said firmly, "we are gathered here in the celebration of life. I have no long song to sing. I am weak yet, and none of us is strong. But we live. The Land has been preserved. The mad riot and rout of Lord Foul's army shows us that he has fallen. The fierce echo of battle within the krill of Loric shows us that the white gold has done combat with the Illearth Stone, and has emerged triumphant. That is cause enough for celebration. Enough? My friends, it will suffice for us and for our children, while the present age of the Land endures.

"In token of this, I have brought the krill to Glimmermere." Reaching painfully into his robe, he drew out the dagger. Its gem showed no light or life. "In it, we see that ur-Lord Thomas Covenant, Unbeliever and white gold wielder, has returned to his world, where a great hero was fashioned for our deliverance.

"Well, that is as it must be, though my heart regrets his passing. Yet let none fear that he is lost to us. Did not the old legends say that Berek Halfhand would come again? And was not that promise kept in the person of the Unbeliever? Such promises are not made in vain.

"My friends--people of the Land--Thomas Covenant once inquired of me why we so devote ourselves to the Lore of High Lord Kevin Landwaster. And now, in this war, we have learned the hazard of that Lore. Like the krill, it is a power of two edges, as apt for carnage as for preservation. Its use endangers our Oath of Peace.

"I am Mhoram son Variol, High Lord by the choice of the Council. I declare that from this day forth we will not devote ourselves to any Lore which precludes Peace. We will gain lore of our own--we will strive and quest and learn until we have found a lore in which the Oath of Peace and the preservation of the Land live together. Hear me you people! We will serve Earthfriendship in a new way."

As he finished, he lifted the krill and tossed it high into the air. It arced glinting through the sunlight, struck water in the center of Glimmermere. When it splashed the potent water, it flared once, sent a burn of white glory into the depths of the lake. Then it was gone forever.

High Lord Mhoram watched while the ripples faded. Then he made an exultant summoning gesture, and all the people around Glimmermere began to sing in celebration:

Hail, Unbeliever! Keeper and Covenant,
Unoathed truth and wicked's bane,
Ur-Lord Illender, Prover of Life:
Hail! Covenant!
Dour-handed wild magic wielder,
Ur-Earth white gold's servant and Lord--
Yours is the power that perserves.
Sing out, people of the Land--
Raise obeisance!
Hold honor and glory high to the end of days:
Hail, Unbeliever!
Covenant!
Hail!

They raised their staffs and swords and hands to him, and his vision blurred with tears...

Also, not long before Covenant gives the dead of Coercri their caamora, he and his crew meet the Search!!! O!M!G! what a moment!! No power or time remaining on this battery to copy it all from the book right now. But I'll do it tomorrow. (If we have power by then!) But the best lines are Honninscrave's

"And your gladness" - he touched the side of his jaw with one hand - "is a weighty matter."

And some pages later, Pitchwife says something like

"It seems Thomas Covenant's knowledge of Giants is not as great as he believes."

And I just bumped the Giants thread, because most of my favorite bits are Giant bits. Stone and Sea I love those big folk!!!

Here's one that made me laugh outloud...

Chapter 22: "Also Love in the World", The One Tree:

Covenant and Linden had just emerged from her cabin, dressed in robes that had been given to them and barefoot...

Then for a time Linden felt that she was blushing like a girl. She strove to reamin detached; but she could not stifle the blood which betrayed her face. Every Giant they met seemed to look at her and Covenant with knowledge, laughter, and open approval. Pitchwife grinned so hugely that his pleasure dominated the disformation of his features. Honniscrave's eyes shone from under his fortified brows, and his beard bristled with appreciation. Sevinhand Anchormaster's habitual melancholy lifted into a smile which was both rue trammeled and genuine--the smile of a man who had lost his own love so long ago that envy no longer hindered his empathy. Even Galewrath's stolid face crinkled at what she saw. And a rare softness entered the First's demeanor, giving a glimpse of her Giantish capacity for glee.

Finally their attentions became so explicit that Linden wanted to turn away. Embarrassment might have made her sound angry if she had spoken. But Covenant faced them all with his arms cocked mock-seriously on his hips and growled, "Does everybody on this bloody rock know what we do with our privacy?"

I loved the the confrontation with Drool Rockworm especially when Prothall surprises us all (and especially Covenant) by wresting the staff from Drool when it looked as though he never had a chance.

Furl, I love that bit too. I think it's adorable.

My all time favorite scene is without a doubt Foamfollower's sacrifice for both Covenant and The Land at Hotash Slay in TPTP. Foamfollower was souch a good soul; when every else in the land thought (rightfully) that TC was a prick, Foamfollower stood by him. For Foamfollower to commit such a selfless act is stunning. I cry like a baby every time I read that.

I was just so happy that they finally submitted to their love for each other. Of course, thru most of The One Tree, Covenant is either in his wild magic venom caul or that Elohim induced "silence".

I also loved the part in WGW after Covenant emerges from the Banefire "fused". And he summons Linden to Mhoram's old living spaces. Then they go upland to Glimmermere and it "recognizes" him.

There's alot of little "bits" I loved in these

One passage that affected me when I first read the Chronicles was when Mhoram is describing his special knowledge of the birth and history of the three Ravers. It's just such a spooky, well-written section that it gives me shivers down my spine. 'their long-forgotten mother'.

Also the Earthroot section in Melenkurion Skyweir. The sense of impending doom. Covenant really angered me with his 'bargain' here, but the sense of mystery as they go deeper into the mountain is breathtaking. I can envisage it so well, thanks to Donaldson's descripitive skill.

I also love the Kemper and the croyel in the 2nd Chronicles. When Honninscrave breaks Kasreyn's neck with the shackle, and what happens next, is sickening and terrifying.

Vain is an immensely cool character. Like the Haruchai, but more so! Just think about what he could accomplish if he put his mind to it (as his school report might go)!

The croyel was creepy...I wonder if there will more of them in the third chrons...
