I think I revere Yoda more than any other movie alien character. As a 9 or 10-yr old seeing The Empire Strikes Back, I was completely mesmerized by this odd-looking and odd-talking creature, who turned out to be such a wise and gentle teacher. Then for Return of the Jedi Lucas reprised the "small and gentle creature" formula for laughs in the form of the Ewoks - and Star Wars never fully recovered after that. Yoda: profound. Ewoks: stupid.

V'ger from Star Trek: The Motion Picture was an outstanding alien entity. Also liked the freaky alien cigar+soccerball probe thingey in ST IV: The Voyage Home. I thought the probe was sentient, not just a vessel.

If I may stretch things further, what about the Monoliths in the Space Odyssey novels and the movies? I love the idea of these perfect obsidian slabs representing an unfathomable alien intelligence. Sure, they're not biological creatures you can talk to, or have a drink with, but that just makes them really alien.

I'd vote for the Amnion if I could, but I haven't traversed all the Gap books. I don't even know what the heck they are yet. (No, don't tell me.)

The Borg were very interesting at first. But now I can't decide if they're still cool or just cheesy.

The Alien species from the movie(s) Alien scares the crap outta me. So, so well conceived and executed. I still have nightmares about them.

I think the Shadows from B5 kick butt too.

Nice theory, but wrong.

The Borg have been around for long time - way before that episode. And the season finale of season 1 referenced the Borg (they had been attacking colonies on the Federation border).

but it woud be funny if wesley destroyed the universe. maybe the nanites time traveled? say wesley shuttleed them back in time after they became a problem?

I doubt it; it's far more interesting that they are alien. Anyway, if the Borg were Wesley's nanites, how come they had no idea of the Federation until the Borg met the Enterprise?

do we have any knowledge of our creator? not to mention they went far in the past after they went far into the future, who knows how many spinoff generations this may have started, not to mention the parallel universes they discovered and invaded. You know it makes horrifying sense. Not to mention if they had assimilated all those planets and civilizations up until the point they "discovered" the federation, they would have had the knowledge the people they assimilated, which would have included the knowledge of the federation, so that part never made sense to me, but I'm no expert on Borg history, other than the one I created, heh.

I doubt it; it's far more interesting that they are alien.

you don't find it interesting that humans created their own doom? youre a tough one to please, LM.

I am intersted in humans being responsible for their own doom; I find that theme very appealing. I am not interested in Wesley Crusher creating the Borg, with time travel being used to get out of any story issues. I'm not saying your idea is bad - it's creative - just that it's more appealing for the Borg to be alien and not a 'Crusher creation'.

Trek universe has done everything to death: shape changing aliens, war-like aliens, organic ships, time-space anomalies, etc.

True, which is why I stopped paying attention to Trek years and years ago.....Actually, right around the time Babylon 5 came out, and I realized how good sci-fi could be.
