Shows I watch ... every week

Post by RDGO_50 »

I'm really enjoying all the posts there are here - it'll take almost a lifetime to read them all, but I'm workin' on it.

Each week - my girl and I have several Shows we 'always' watch. A couple we are collecting the Seasonal DVD sets that go with.

Best DVD Seasonal Set to purchase would be the Series: 24
What you do - is lock the front door, close all the drapes and watch the whole dang season all at once - without (virtually) any interruptions whatsoever. It'll drive you nuts, to the point of fast forwarding past all the nonsense you see at the beginning and end of each of the shows, just to get back to the meat of the story... Do Season 1, even if you already watched it, (slo-mo) ....each ....and...every... week / with those stupid commercials... Then go get Season Two, etc., etc. Your nerves will be raw when you finish - I kid you not! It's a roller coaster ride, all the way.

Next up, for us - is watching Stargate, the original Series. 'COurse, Stargate Atlantis is growing on us - but the original cast are akin to Star Trek, next Generation adoration at Season 8. You always have to re-watch this Show as you'd certainly have to have missed something.

We like to watch the rest of these Shows almost anytime they are on ----

Vegas - (me, more than her... oh well)
Medium - (great show)
NCIS - (luv it when he bops the crew on the back of the head)
House - (who couldn't like this Show - heck, he's a Brit)
Smallville - (I grew up reading the comics, and the special effects are great, even if the story line has been altered for convenience's sake)

CSI - all time best show created in the last five years....

As for any of the so-called 'reality shows' - uh-huh, don't watch any of 'em --- they're all rigged in some fashion; Hollywood commits nothing to chance at any time - even American Idol - so, why bother.

Otherwise, I don't really watch any of the other MSM TV networks - can't stand mindless Seinfeld, or a couple of the other hot(????) shows out there = it's all hype anyway. Almost all of the comedies are pushing the alternative lifestyle as if it's really mainstream - whether you prefer it or not - Hollywood doesn't bother with actually representing grassroots America and hasn't ever since John Wayne passed away.

Here's a good example of what I mean ---- this Christmas, at least here in America - the networks have been pushing horror shows for Xmas - what's with that? Christmas is a time of giving - not yet another slasher dude hacking some innocent to death thru ritual killing(s)... yet, that's all Hollywood had for commercialization throughout all of the Holidays - hardly anything else was shown for commercials.... Hollywood Hitlerism is not my cup o' tea and like it or not - that's exactly how the rest of the World has gotten their idea of who America is these days... from Hollywood.

Hollywood sucks.... it's sad to see such a degradation of something that was pretty damn neat back in the day..... Nowadays, the so-called second generation out on the Left Coast has decided to ruin Daddy's company and they're doin' a pretty good job of it. Take a good look at what they think is mainstream and ask yourself (most of you) if that is really how you would live your life....

The Shows I have listed up there don't have actors who prefer such lifestyles, for the most part - they're sorta in-between, the Family-style television which gets NO advertising hardly at all, as opposed to whatever else is out there.

Sure - I watched Wesley Snipes in all of the BLADE movies - it's great fun, sorta like Bugs Bunny --- which is now... also PC incorrect. But, for the most part, all of my movies are by only certain actors and tend to lean in the sci-fi direction.

It truly sucks when idiots in Hollywood and TV say that Bugs Bunny is too violent, or whatever - when you turn around and have to see Family Guy pulling all sorts of rude vulgar butt-crack humor on the screen when the Show is "supposed" to be for children. I can tell ya - I lived in old West Germany in the Seventies and if I were from that region of the World and I saw today's American TV? I would never want to live here.... ever. I've tasted both sides of the water and living in Europe was great fun, even if the work was hard. America doesn't have the top drawer in everything like they pretend - they're politics leave alot to be desired, these days, too.

Just my take - and hopefully things will get better moreso than worse.

At this point, I only watch one show every week - Battlestar Galactica. Not because I think nothing else is any good, but because I don't have time to find out if they are. I tried BG because I watched the original series, and figured I'd try it.

Gotta disagree with you on CSI (all of them). It's mildly entertaining, but it's sooooooo over the top. I'm constantly reminded of Jon Lovitz's "ACTING!" character on SNL, especially Marg Helgenberger and David Caruso. I find the writing on NCIS to be far, far superior.

NCIS is currently the only show I'd tape if I had to miss it. I try to make it a point to catch The Simpsons, but they rerun so much it's not an issue if I don't.

Yeah, I'm not watching much--my Grad School class was on Wednesday night last semester so I missed a bunch of LOST. I am really starting to get into NCSI and am waiting for 24 Hours to show up on the 15. But with my luck my next Grad school class will probably be on that night...Every single reality show has completely burned me out...

I seldom watch any network TV shows.

Although I do like the Apprentice, Survivor and Amazing Race.

I watch Survivor and Apprentice for different reasons than some might guess.
I watch The Apprentice because I can quickly loathe some contestants!
Watching people BS in the boardroom is always entertaining.
Survivor is always a light hearted watch.
It's always fun to see how many contestants, once they get on the "jury", fail to realize that lying and cheating is part of the game and has been since DAY1 of the first season.
Morons!

The Amazing Race is a great show although this year they had family of 4 teams.
It didn't hold my interest and a seldom watched it.

Battlestar Galactica is the only show that I bother to TIVO.
Everything else.....bleh!

I prefer classic movies, any Nature channels and the History channel.

Anyone else here get the High Def channels on a HD TV?
Freaking awesome!

I haven't been able to collect enough shows in a row to really gete into BSG, over StarGate.... SG-1 still cranks 'em like WOW - the last show I just watched had the snake things now on earth and cloning themselves... go figure.

On the HD question - I'm getting ready to purchase (upgrade) my whole setup - Mitsubishi (video) and Bose (audio) --- should be awesome.

Every week? I tape SG1, Farscape and Atlantis if they're on Fox, and try to watch them. Also try to catch As Time Goes By on PBS. Occasionally I catch an ep of House, but it's getting really repetative. That's pretty much it, other than the news.

Shows one watches each week

OK, just my $0.02 on NCIS and CSI.

I enjoy watchng both shows; however, I would not delude myself into believing that NCIS is half as good as CSI. Gil Grissom as a character compared to Jethro Gibbs, please, or Mark Harmon compared to William Peterson as actors. The writing on CSI is consistently better than most other television. Another point the two most interesting and well written characters (and maybe the most well acted parts) are Dr. Mallard (David MacCallum) and Abby (Pauley Parette); however, they are not leads in the shows. And some of the plot lines on NCIS reduce to Gibbs white washing some sorta trouble his Marine buddies have gotten themselves into. (Reminds me of the the John Travolta part in The General's daughter, and the James Cromwell asks him "are you a soldier or an investigator" when Travolta's character decides to tell the whole truth in his report no matter what its consequence).

A question to someone an expert in NCIS is Jethro Gibbs still an active Marine, per circumstance in the show?

ETA: So far each season of NCIS has been a better than the one before it, except for the season 2 Ari arc of episodes. So that gives fans of the show some hope (including myself).

No "have-to" watch shows, but lately started to watch Numbers.
I try to catch that when it's on.

No, Gibbs is no longer active (technically, he's a GS for the Department of the Navy), though I've never picked up whether he retired, joined the reserves, or what. And yeah, the show does keep getting better. The new Director sucks, but Ziva's worth it.

I watch The Daily Show and Blind Date everynight with my parents... well, my mom leaves when BD comes one, she thinks it's stupid, and I can't say she doesn't have a point there!

Also, Survivor and the OC

Nope, sorry. I find CSI hopelessly repetative (oh look, Marg Helgenberger's taking her shirt off so we can see her tank top again), poorly written, and savagely overacted. I like William Petersen (To Live and Die in LA is one of my favorite movies), but his performance on the show is nearly painfull to watch. But the biggest problem I have is that I don't like or care about the characters.

Contrast that with NCIS. The characters make the show. My whole family was heartbroken when Kate was shot last year. None of us wanted Ziva sitting at her desk. Add to that a great supporting cast, good stories, and writing that doesn't take itself too seriously, and I think it's easily the best drama on TV.
