Consult the I-Ching
Sure, there are various generators on the 'net, but I don't like them. Some are visually impressive but have no substance. Some have substance but are clunky. Some just read like fortune cookies or weekly horoscopes.
I've studied the I-Ching (lacadaisically, yes) for about ten years. I don't believe in it as an oracle, though I haven't entirely ruled it out. I do really enjoy it as a philosophical concept, however. It's heavily grounded in Taoism, if that floats your boat (I lean a lot more towards Zen, personally, though I have a lot of respect for the Tao). I also believe it can be quite beneficial as a tool to approaching situations.
So, curious? Have a question you want the I-Ching to answer? Post it here or send me a PM. Just keep in mind the following things: the readings take time, yes or no questions don't work, and sometimes the I Ching answers the question you didn't ask.

somewhere back down the road apiece i was either told or read or somehow got the impression that when one consults an "oracle" one is really consulting their own inner knowledge. now granted, this could have been some foo foo new agey bs i came across somewhere, possibly in the runes book. but, if that is so...then i would imagine I Ching has as much veracity as any other method of consulting an oracle.I don't believe in it as an oracle, though I haven't entirely ruled it out.
anyway, i am interested and will think it over and formulate a question and get back to you.
thanks for doing this.

very cool, Syl.
from what Lucimay said about consulting inner knowledge, and my total lack of experience and knowledge of I Ching, other than "knowing it exists", can someone do it for someone else? I always thought it was the "user" who sought knowledge for "oneself". Could you explain it some more, from your point of view? (if you have the time, that is, I know how hard you have to ROCK! in your personal life, and wouldn't want to add a burden, and I am a Google Master.
)
And could you ask it a question that you think I need to hear the answer?

You could do it for yourself, and it's probably best that you do so, but there's no reason someone else can't look up the answer for you, so to speak.
There's always the risk that somebody else's perception can (and usually will) distort the picture as it pertains to you. The same holds true for I Ching, I imagine. Like I said, though, I don't really hold with divination, so it's more of a tool of understanding process, which goes hand in hand with understanding the I Ching for yourself. I've been told by others that I've read for, though, that the insight offered is usually pretty beneficial.
I could, of course, ask the I Ching anything I felt like. There really aren't any rules. It's more a matter of getting out what you put in (did I mention it practically runs on binary?
). And that's really why I'm doing this. I didn't like what's commonly available, and the more work I put into it, the more I get out of it, even if it's for other people. So, please, don't hesitate on my account. Just sayin' it could take a while for me to get it done.

well, i've had a good evening and had one of life's little mysteries solved for me so my next question is:
what are the playing cards about and who is sending them to me?
this undoubtly makes no sense to you Syl but that is my question.
is it an appropriate question? see what you come up with it's important to me.
and thanks.

Lucimay,
Feng - Abundance

Commentary on the Symbol:Abundance.
Prosperous and smooth.
The king reaches this point.
Be like the sun.
This was a pretty easy reading to do, but I'm afraid it doesn't give me much insight. You basically have two very energetic sources coming together, both of which have the potential to be constructive and destructive. Either through conflict or cooperation, an abundance is created. Can't really say if it's necessarily good, though it usually is as it follows a period of progress. A lot is going to depend on what you do now, since this is the apex. Things will start to cool down, for better or worse.Thunder and lightning come together.
An image of abundance.

Thanks Syl. will ponder and get back to you on my take and see how they match up.

The Esmer,
Fu - Turning Back

Sequence: "Things cannot go beyond the extreme. When they reach the limit, they turn back to the origin."
Decision:
Approaching
- ... One at this place quits the darkness and happily returns to the light. Because she attaches to and is influenced by the host, a kindhearted person, and returns to the proper path, there is good fortune.
How I would look at it - well, it looks good, for the most part. Seems like you've gone through hell lately, but like Lucimay's situation, you've reached the summit. As long as you take the right path, which should be easy enough as long as you don't try to keep going the way you have been (I'd say something hasn't been working for you, but you haven't wanted to admit it), everything should be gravy.

Prosperous and smooth.
Going out and coming in.
No harm.
Friends arrive.
No fault.
The Tao of falling away and turning back.
In seven days comes the return.
Favorable to have somewhere to go.
Yours is, of course, more complex, Esmer. The situation will turn to:Thunder under earth.
An image of turning back.
In correspondence with this,
The ancient king closed the gates of the passes
On the winter solstice.
Traveling merchants did not travel,
Nor did the king make inspection of his states.

Thank you, Syl, that almost took long enough for me to think I was on your "poopylist", heh.
Seriuosly, tho, the chills that are still running thru my body (I get "electrified" sometimes when "important" things occur, heh) tells me that something has struck a chord, and will have to study this meticulously for some time. It was indeed a "complex" question, and was expecting a complex answer, but you also point out that it may have answered a question I didn't ask, as well. I could apply this to many things going on right now, but the "gist" of it was indeed my "spiritual" progress, and my being in a rut as it seems to be. Easy enough to point out my failings, as well as my bad habits, look anywhere on the board at my posts you'll maybe see what I mean, heh.
Interesting, and compelling, to say the least, Syl. I appreciate your time and efforts, more than you could ever know.
Werd up to you, and the family peeps, bro, ROCK! ON!
Thank You.

Love the sock puppet, Syl. The effect of the I-Ching always struck me as a self-fulfilling prophecy, but it's great fun in any case. I loved Philip K. Dick's usage of it in "The Man in the High Castle." Well, here goes. I hope I'm doing this right, but it is 1:00 AM after all:
It's very much in the open (in fact Dick let the I-Ching direct the course of his High Castle book). When he comlained about some of the plot points, he just blamed the I-Ching. Heh.Lord Foul wrote:How should I end the current short story I'm working on?
