Frontmen/Lead singer Gods.
My personal favorites are Roger Daltry and Robert Plant. In their day both were great performers and both had awesome voices (Daltry has or had a seven octave range). What frontmen do you deify?Arguments can be made for many, including but not limited to:Ozzy Osborn,Freddy Mercury,Mick Jagger,Paul Rogers and many many more.Plant and Daltry are my faves, who's yours? And why

Gotta go with two favorites:
1) David Lee Roth - no one put on a show and worked the crowd like Diamond Dave
2) Bruce Dickinson - such a great voice. In a day where metal singers were judged by how high they could wail, Bruce was able to carry Maiden's vocals without all of the screaming.
My other worthy notables. Halford, of course. Eric Adams (Manowar), Dio, Don Dokken.

three of my favorites...
Chris Robinson of the Black Crows

*sigh* Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam

and "i'm your toy, your twentieth century boy" Marc Bolan of T Rex

you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

Lone Justice? Hmm, I've vaguely heard of them. Lucimay, what kind of music do they play?
Grace Slick...I've heard about her bouts of drunken stupor through the years, when she dis-Graced herself on stage. Wild, man. (shows peace symbol)
Chrissie Hynde...agree, she's a goddess. And she's not afraid to annoy the hell out of her audience at concerts, from what I've read - and heard from Watchers.
Sting will always be the ultimate frontman for me. The Police were these three blonde gods, and Sting was the King...of Pain. Nah, the Philosopher King. Hey, I don't know many rock singers that went around quoting Nabakov, Koestler and Jung -- and made it all sound good in song.
Jim Kerr...the voice of Simple Minds. Deep and rich. Tends to slur words together when he sings, so it's hard to tell what the hell he's saying, but it's part of his charm, heh.
How about an anti-god? ---> David Byrne of Talking Heads. Quirky, geeky, frenetic, ironic, sarcastic...Byrne mocked the bloated dinosaurs of 70's rock (sorry, Led Zep fans - and I'm one of them!) and Talking Heads deconstructed the whole rock star mythos, satirizing it and remaking it to suit their irreverent purposes. If I had a band, I'd love to have Byrne as the frontman.
How about Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart? Goddesses, no question about it in my mind.

ditto on Robert Plant.
James Hetfield is up there
Lemmy
ditto on Sting
ditto on Chris Robinson
Mick Jagger
MY MAN Eric Bloom
ditto on Daltry
Blondie
Darryl Hall
Neil Young... kind of the anti-frontman frontman, but it works
I could go on and on with jazz soul and r&b singers so we won't even start that EXCEPT FOR...
Frank Sinatra
Marvin Gaye

Plant-The King of Cock-Rock. Watch any live perfotrmance of his, and he flat-out owns the stage and the audience.
Mercury-Consumate showman, and the second-greatest voice in rock. The guy's voice still gives me chills. A terrible loss.
Halford-Not quite the showman that Mercury was, but the greatest voice ever.
Roth-Not the greatest voice, but perfectly matched to his material. The closest to Plant's heir apparent.
I'll give credit to Daltrey and Jagger, though I don't care for either. Sting and Eric Bloom are interesting choices. I wouldn't include either of them with the Halfords or the Plants, but both do quite well. To that secondary list I'd add Joe Elliott from Def Leppard, Ozzy, Sammy Hagar, and Ann Wilson.

My personal favorite, a lacquered voice that seems to age like fine wine: David Gilmour.
John Lennon is a close second. Kudos to McCartney, John Whetton, Adrian Belew, Stevie Wonder, Roger Waters, Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, Gary Brooker, Ray Davies, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, whoever sings lead for The Zombies. Love their voices.
