...................*deep breath*...............

First and foremost, Bad Religion (I'm not limiting myslef to metal here, just general rocky stuff)

So -

Bad Religion
NOFX
The Vandals
Pennywise
Tool
Opeth
Children of Bodom
Ensiferum
A Perfect Circle
Arch Enemy
God Forbid
Thrice (I resisted the lure of emo for a while, but some of it is quite good, except for the whiney singing)
Metallica
Dimmu Borgir

It goes on...and on...but there are a few names for you

And bump
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Sex Type Thing by STP

I am, I am, I am
I said I wanna get next to you
I said I gonna get close to you
You wouldn’t want me have to hurt you too, hurt you too?

I ain’t, I ain’t, I ain’t
A buyin’ into your apathy
I’m gonna learn ya my philosophy
You wanna know about atrocity, atrocity?

I know you want what’s on my mind
I know you like what’s on my mind
I know it eats you up inside
I know, you know, you know, you know

I am a man, a man
I’ll give ya somethin’ that ya won’t forget
I said ya shouldn’t have worn that dress
I said ya shouldn’t have worn that dress

I know you want what’s on my mind
I know you like what’s on my mind
I know it eats you up inside
I know, you know, you know, you know

Here I come, I come, I come

I am, I am, I am
I said I wanna get next to you
I said I gonna get close to you
You wouldn’t want me have to hurt you too, hurt you too?

I know you want what’s on my mind
I know you like what’s on my mind
I know it eats you up inside
I know, you know, you know, you know
I know you want what’s on my mind
I know you like what’s on my mind
I know it eats you up inside
I know, you know, you know, you know

Here I come, I come, I come
Here I come, I come, I come
Here I come, I come, I come
Here I come, I come, I come
Here I come, I come, I come
Here I come, I come, I come

Hmm... metal that I'm into, in no particular order...

Dissection
Satanic Warmaster
Deathspell Omega
Gorgoroth
Emperor
Nokturnal Mortum
Arcturus
Borknagar
Bathory
Burzum
Samael
Finntroll
Naglfar
Darkthrone

Amongst others.

In fact, speaking of cars, I finally got round to making an all-black-metal tape for my car yesterday. I forget the tracklisting, though. I think it has something by most of the above bands.

I love these sorts of bands but singing and a tune must be involved. Slipknot I hate. Metallica rule. Arch Enemy are alright. Bad Religion are good. Rammstein and Nightwish are good. the others... well, I have been falling behind in music recently(which I have).

I don't like Slipknot, per se, a few song I do like. I really have to branch out into European music cause I've never even heard any of the bands Somber mentioned. And Ver--I can't keep up with who you are anymore--you'll always be Q to me... :P

I just wouldn't be cool enough if I didn't listen to only the most obscure bands I could find :P

Well...for me, the 80s was where true metal was at. I didn't really like anything prior to Kiss, so Led Zeppelin has never been a band that I liked.

As for good ole blow your ears out head bangin' music, I gotta go with the following masters:

First and foremost, Priest and Maiden.
Not so well known, Manowar and Lizzy Borden.
Ronnie James Dio
Early Ozzy stuff (Bark at the Moon the last great one that he done)
Fates Warning
Raven
Anvil
Anthrax (prior to John Bush)
Metallica (Master of Puppets their last great one)
Megadeth
Dokken
early Twisted Sister

I would most definately not classify any of the following as head banging metal:

GnR (too bluesy)
AC/DC (still too bluesy)
Any glam / hair band
any grunge metal

Part of my Christmas presents from my wife was the Manowar Hell on Earth IV DVD set (totally awesome!!!), along with a couple of new Iron Maiden DVDs.

God, I love that woman!

I have to agree with the above that I am not too into Slipknot, though my son and his friends like a lot of their stuff. I am definitely going to check out Somberlain's list.
I didn't see Trivium listed. I love them. I also like 36 Crazy Fists, Disturbed, Metallica, Shadows Fall, Anthrax, Opiate for the Masses, Pantera, Megadeth, and Soilwork. I am sure there are a lot more I could mention, but I'll stop there. Trivium is by far my favorite. I like Staind too, but their last CD was a bit mild for me.

Good, good and good. I don't know the rest, though some of the names are familiar.
