Cinema ad?!?!

Post by Fist and Faith »

I went to see The Pink Panther today. Before the previews started, when ads and trivia are being flashed on the screen, I saw one of the most surprising things in a long time: A full-screen ad for Runes of the Earth!! I swear!!! Couldn't believe my eyes. I called duchess and Furls from my seat and left messages on their machines.

Holy crap. That's awesome. A bit late in the game, but...
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Yeah, why did they wait until now for such visible advertising? To boost interest in the paperback release?

The title of this thread made me think there was an ad for Lord Fouls Bane the movie.

What was the ad like?
and more importantly, why did you go see the Pink Panther?

Fisty works with disabled adults, and part of his job is taking group of people on field trips. :) That's why he was at the movies yesterday - he had taken a group of people on a field trip. :)

He called my cell phone while I was taking a nap. :) I listened to his voice message when I woke up, and called him back, but got his voice mail in return (he was probably still in the movie :) ).

I was really surprised - the movie theater near me has those adverstisement slides and trivia slides and all that - but I have
never seen a slide for a book! 8O And then to have a friend see a book ad, and to have it be for a book by Donaldson??? 8O

Pretty cool.

How do you suppose one would get a dvd copy of such an ad? :D Hey, it even said to read an excerpt at www.stephenrdonaldson.com.

I got your message Fisty, but I couldn't make out what you were saying on it...LOL. I thought you said you bought Runes at a movie theater...and I was thinking...

"huh??? He already HAS Runes...why is he buying it again? And way at a movie theater of all places??'

Ah well, the chemo has gone to my head me thinks... :? :P
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too

we still have 3 left to wait for? not to mention everyone will have to buy the old books to "catch up". I say the timing is brilliant, and the strategy adequate. ;) can anyone remember seeing an ad for any other book in a theater? :? (I very rarely go)

Have you got any links? I'm going to go search for some, if there is a trailer out at the cinema, then there should be some online somewhere.

I'll post if I should get any information

That's very cool. I don't think I've ever seen an ad for a book in a theater, but I don't see many movies.
