I didnt watch it all ( its 30 odd minutes long ) but watched bits of it and its looks amazing.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
Full of the heavens and time.

Did you watch the whole thing, Revan? That scale of this game is astounding - from controlling a species through evolution from cell to sentience, to creating a culture and building technology, to heading out into space and colonising news worlds, all in one game. And the technology behind it, that allows everything to be fully customisable and works out the game mechanics based on your customisations.
...I'd say that was pretty amazing.
Only problem is the video quality, because Google expands it to fill the whole page, screwing up low res pictures (and giving me a bit of a headache).

This could be the greatest game ever however, I have some reservations. Seeing some of the weird alien designs (like the top-heavy bird) makes me hope you can selectively download them. I worry some players might make some ridiculous designs.

Thats the first thing I'd do!

Very awesome-looking game. I do have a concern: Will Wright showed in his presentation how you could visit another planet in your UFO and check out whatever civilization was there. So far so good, but then he demonstrated how your UFO, if sufficiently armed, could blow up the entire planet if you didn't like the civilization there. The problem is that those worlds are not the CPU's creations, but other players' creations.
I wouldn't want some other player coming by and destroying in one shot a world that I had spent a lot of time creating. Wright used the word "asynchronous" to describe how you interact with other players' creations: I hope this means that the hostile player who wishes to destroy my world would merely destroy a copy of it that has been downloaded onto his machine, while my "original" is safe.

Yeah, definitely a sticky issue there. It's a good thing to know this game is in its very early stages. I except Maxis will iron out any chinks we currently see.Matrixman wrote:Very awesome-looking game. I've been gaming less and less. I thought Oblivion might be the last PC game I ever buy, but now Spore is looking to take that honor. In any case, I have full confidence Wright is going to blow us away. Still have uber-fond memories of SimCity 2000.

you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]

cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

It means that it downloads the alien races but doesn't mean your universe (that has been populated with players' aliens) had other players in it. It's your game and the program merely finds aliens to fill it constantly. In another player's game your aliens will be downloaded for his pleasure, but you won't be there to control them.Matrixman wrote:Very awesome-looking game.
