I again find myself agreeing with dAN. I've listened to 3 Smiths songs and I'm already a fan. The Cure I've listened to over and over and have tried to get into the band. The music is terrific, nearly perfect to my ears but the lead singer drives me nuts. He has a decent enough voice but he spends half the time off key, just below or just above the note. That may be his style but it just digs under my skin. SMITHS = good. Cure = Not so good (unless they released an instrumental cd.)

aTOMiC : I am a Patriots and Sox fan. and I love the Pixies, Dumptruck, Lemonheads, Blake Babies, Throwing Muses. gowing up in NH, i do dislike the Kennedy family though.
dan: I like most of the Smiths catalogue. just pointing out that together they were great (for the most) but solo they are weak.
listening to REM right now, and wondering where exactly they lost it.

Where they lost what? I like most of the Victoria's Secret catalogue.

Honestly most punk and a whole lot of new wave music grates my nerves and seems pointless to me.But I understand it is all just a matter of personal experience and taste.

The entire Athens scene was incredibly over-rated, imo.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I'll look for vauxhall. i had heard the early stuff and was turned off by it.
Tori Amos. i know I am to be impressed. I know that she is an Important Artist. but I find her to be like nails on a chalkboard. her lyrics may be the greatest ever, but her helium voice and hippie-goddess persona make it impossible for me to find out. and she ruined the Robert Plant duo on the Led Zep tribute. if I could erase her voice, I would love that song.

As much as I personally can't stand Tori Amos (the wife absolutely loves her, and over the years I've built up a tolerance), I have to admit the girl has some serious talent. Where else are you going to find a popular, contemporary pianist?

Tori's OK, but I can't listen to more than a couple of songs at at time...She's just so......Pretentious.

tori...talented? yes. original? yes, the first time on Little Earthquakes. after that, been there heard that. same for Alanis. Jagged Little Pill, inspired. after that, been there heard that.

my wife and i saw some letter from a Tori fan and stole the line...
"me: she's a goddess. julie: she's a healer."
while i'm at squeaky voiced wimmen.
Mariah Carey. why the notes only dogs and dolphins can hear? i am against all such over singing.
esp during our national anthem.

Mariah hasn't done that in years, Null. The last time I remeber hearing her do that was like 15 years ago......when did she do the anthem? Still, you're right. It was annoying, and it's bad on the vocal chords, too, which is why she stopped.

Not really.. they had some generally good stuff, I really liked them in their day.drew wrote:Oasis had talent, they just chose not to use it to the best of their abilities, and instead rely on contraversy to sell albums.
One band that drives me mad is Mcfly. Mcflee is more accurate.
And The Smiths... The less said about them the better.

I don't knowhow you can mix up Staind and Disturbed. That would be like saying "I was listening to an oldies band, the Beach Boys, or the Rolling Stones, I'm not sure which"
Stained I find boring and whinny.
Disturbed I find very good. Heavy as all Heck with thought provocing lyircs.
And Think of how a heavy rock would sound if they sang Positive sounding lyircs...!
